Science DNA?....How far should it go?

Hey in the end its just a sad sad day actually not because technology is bad its just that it doesn't take much for one to abuse that power and I don't trust people that have that much power at their disposal.

I believe all life is sacred, and there are many things being twisted with that just shouldn't.....Once you start inserting human brain DNA into animals you create something very sad....something that could get very confused cause it's part human....

part human part animal...given that we are just animals anyway...but i know what you're getting at

but no-one bats an eyelid when they inject themselves with insulin grown in pigs (not to common now that we use bacteria with genetic engineering to produce insulin but it used to be the primary source of insulin for diabetics)

we interbreed different species of plants to get certain phenotypic characteristics

we genetically modify sheep to produce milk to treat heart disease by getting them to produce alpha-1 antitrypsin

we have genetically engineered chickens with 4 legs and no wings

we are also working on making fruit to produce the required levels of vitamins so that supplements will be irrelevant and pointless

if by unaltered you mean organic then dont trust what you read...organic beef can be labelled as such after feeding the cows organically for 2 weeks before slaughter...before that you can feed them on whatever genetically modified synthetic shit or their own parents (feeding cows animal based feed is tragically common)

The resulting beings in your proposed situation are still very much alive, I assume. As such, they should be treated with respect and dignity...in a perfect society. However, such a society does not exist. So, their sacrifices would mean the betterment of the continuing species. Namely, humans.

So, in a perfect world, they would be treated with dignity and respect...as beings who live and breathe. In this world, as we have seen with any group that is different, they will be treated with hate and disdain.

Yeah, I suppose your right...It's just not part manys human nature for us to have a perfect world.......It just seems there will be a time when there will be a blend of another species that will live outside the lab...but there are already those species that are in the labs now.....And when does dignity kick in?

Kinda like what science has been talking about with the cloning people to use later....though I think with that, they are just cloning organs.

It's cloning organ's deb, you don't need to clone entire people to "harvest". Genetic engineering and cloning have huge potential for good. I don't think people realise that a lot of varieties of crops created nowadays are done so using irradiation.

I won't eat those irradiated or genetic things either....❌

Did you know that using irradiation kills the enzymes that you need?...Would only cause more work to digest your food....

And cloning organs doesn't bother me...it's the other thing... 😄

Sorry deb, you're probably eating the irradiated crops without even knowing the variant was made using irradiation. I recall it's not regulated anywhere near as strictly as genetic engineering.

Wouldn't work anyway so don't be scared - due to the fact all my cells pretty much are replaced every eight years by copies, it works a little like copying a VHS tape - to another, to another etc and each copy is less precise than the next. Hence wrinkles lines and aging - Clone myself a man in his 😖hifty: a man ok and I end up with clones that develop Cancers etc (probably) 30 years early. We know this from Dolly the sheep.

The all round ethics of genetic engineering are a minefield and the law will always lag behind cutting edge science.

As a rule - Stem cell research = Very Good
Therapeutic research = excellent
Designer babies = bad
cloning Whirly (impossible sadly) very bad

I only saw the picture....LOL.....It was weird....Guess I should of read the article too, but am drawn to bizarre pictures.....LOL.....

But I've oh...well...I did read some things awhile ago...My dad is also an avid science research reader and shares info with me also....but who knows if it's true....he is a liberal....hahahahahaha...

I know someone with cystic fibrosis.

I don't know any blind chickens though.

IMO:

Science should go as far as it can. Perhaps it can provide substantial answers that are not provided by the bible, or your average bible-thumping, red-state American. I hope God is in the details...because that is the only place he has left to hide.

Or, should we all thump bibles....until it's too late to do anyting about our own existance? God seems to have little interest, so...let's fight for ourselves.
