As I suspected, a demonstration of the most basic understanding of the Word was far too high of an expectation (not to mention insight). Please explain to me, O my wisest of peers, what this verse means:
Could you explain it accurately without knowing anything about culture of the Israelites? Could you explain it accurately without knowing to what the "heaping burning coals" referred? Tell me, O wisest of my peers, what it means without the knowledge which I have given you?
No! You could not!
For that same reason, one must understand the cultural background behind the cultures in which the books of the Bible were written--not to mention the actual translation from Greek or Hebrew!
Weren't there four main languages used in the translation and recreation of the king james bible to english? I could be wrong however Feceman's point stands true that many verses in the bible and text are read and applied to todays culture and use of words and they don't match perfectly.
Folks just like to take the easy route though and attempt to be clever and witty with todays language when poking fun at the bible.
