As I suspected, a demonstration of the most basic understanding of the Word was far too high of an expectation (not to mention insight).

Please explain to me, O my wisest of peers, what this verse means:

Could you explain it accurately without knowing anything about culture of the Israelites? Could you explain it accurately without knowing to what the "heaping burning coals" referred? Tell me, O wisest of my peers, what it means without the knowledge which I have given you?

No! You could not!

For that same reason, one must understand the cultural background behind the cultures in which the books of the Bible were written--not to mention the actual translation from Greek or Hebrew!

Weren't there four main languages used in the translation and recreation of the king james bible to english? I could be wrong however Feceman's point stands true that many verses in the bible and text are read and applied to todays culture and use of words and they don't match perfectly.

Folks just like to take the easy route though and attempt to be clever and witty with todays language when poking fun at the bible.

So if the real meaning of the passages got lost in the english translations why are priests all over the world using the bible as defence for condemning gays?

Why? Because they ignore passages of Scripture and misinterpret others, twisting them to their own erroneous beliefs, that's why.

This also reflects on my question.

What ever i think the bible's bullshit anyway

Because, Urizen, it doesn't pertain to homosexuality at all. Rather, it deals with ritual prostitution in serving other gods.

You'll be hard-pressed to find any passages in the Bible that address same-sex attraction.

You claim that the Bible was mis-translated

So that renders the Bible flawed...would u agree or not ?

Our current version of the Bible is flawed; I do not pretend that it is perfect. It is still the divinely inspired Word of God, though.

Again, the translational errors are cleaned up when one reads the original Greek/Hebrew texts.

Then let's just agree to disagree there.

I am not trying to convert you into Athiesm or Agnosticism...I am trying to get you to recognize the bullshit that is spawned from all this Biblical interpration, and as to why so many people are sick of Christianity as a whole....

That is your views.Trying to get people to see it your way is a way of forcing. We all have our own free will!Lets keep it like that.jm

You say the current version is flawed, implying the original is correct (or less flawed). It seems some people still believe in stoning people to death for shaving on a Sunday, huh?

or shaving period.
