Why not? I, II, and IV all feel perfect on the GBA, so why should later FFs feel wrong on a non-Sony console?

Buttons maybe, but so what? People can cope.

I didn't say a NON SONY CONSOLE.

I was referring specifically to the Xbox.

It would feel wrong to ME if it were on a Xbox Console.

is it comprehensible.....

PS3 NOT SHIPPING WITH HD CABLES!!!!

The price of Sony's upcoming PlayStation 3 has been the subject of much debate. The system will come in $499 and $599 packages, the latter including a larger hard drive, built-in wireless network capabilities, and an HDMI port. However, according to Sony's own official PS3 Web site, the system won't come with the cables necessary to carry an HDMI signal, or any high-definition signal, for that matter.

According to the double-asterisked bit of small print on the page, "Video output in HD requires cables and an HD-compatible display, both sold separately. Copy-protected Blu-ray video discs can only output at 1080p using an HDMI cable connected to a device that is compatible with the HDCP standard. HDMI cable not included. Additional equipment may be required to use the HDMI connector."

HDMI is a video/audio interface that allows high-def content to be displayed in uncompressed form over a single cable. It also supports High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP), an antipiracy measure expected to be encoded into Blu-ray discs. Those discs will also make use of Image Constraint Token (ICT) technology, which would artificially reduce the output resolution of any signal not sent over a secured connection like HDMI.

Currently Microsoft's premium Xbox 360 comes packed with an HD component video cable, while purchasers of the Xbox 360 core system get a standard A/V cable and can pick up HD-compatible cables for $39.99. While it's unknown how much a PS3-specific HDMI cable will cost, GameStop is currently accepting preorders for a "universal" HDMI cable that will cost $99.99.

More money. 🙄

The reason PS3 cost so much is the ****ing HD discs, now even if you shell out the money, you have to spend even more for the HD to work. **** SONY! 😠

Haha! This is just too funny. Sony claims to offer "Free Online Gaming" but they won't even throw in a miserable single HDMI cables with the console. How friggin ridicolus. 😂

Wow. Just when I though Sony was done being idiots, too. 🙄

Im waiting for the announcement that the controllers dont come with the system, and can only be bought online from Japan. 😐

Soooo okay........

$650 (CAN) for HD PS3.
$120 (CAN) for HD Cable (roughly, using Gamespots all in one HDMI cable thingy)
$60-70 (CAN) for one game.

Overall total to play PS3 in my house.
$966 including tax.

WOW. Thats such a bargain...but wait!!!! I get a blu ray drive whooo hooo...now I can watch those 15 HD movies I always wanted to see.

What the hell is this world coming too.

how can HD-DVD's be HD if the format the HD-DVD was recorded from non-HD?... isnt that like saying Wow this is i-Max quality, even though the film wasnt recorded on i-Max film?

hd-dvd = pointless unless the source material itself was HD to begin with

Sony just announced that there won't be any PS3 consoles for Europe this year! They will have to wait till March 2007. Only Japan and the USA will get the console this year:

PS3 will not reach Europe until March

But still on track to arrive in Japan and North America this November

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that the release date for PlayStation 3 in PAL territories has been pushed back until March 2007.

In an official statement, Sony said the decision to revise the launch date was taken following "the delay in the mass production schedule of the blue laser diode within the Sony Group, thus affecting the timely procurement of key components to be utilised in PlayStation 3."

Consumers in Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Africa and Australasia will now have to wait until March to get their hands on a PS3. However, the console is still on track to launch in Japan on November 11 and in North America on November 17. Sony still plans to ship 6 million PS3 units globally before the end of the 2007 fiscal year.

Blue laser diodes are a key component of the PS3's Blu-Ray drive. Rumours of a shortage began to emerge just days ago, with reports suggesting that Sony had suspended shipment of the diodes to customers making standalone Blu-Ray players - but it would seem that wasn't enough to ensure there would be enough consoles to go round in November.

Sony's plans for a global launch in November were first announced by Ken Kutaragi back in March. The announcement came as a surprise to many industry observers who had predicted a staggered release schedule and a 2007 launch date for Europe - but at E3, SCEA president Kaz Hirai confirmed November release dates for all three territories.

News of the delay will no doubt please executives at Microsoft, which managed to pull off a global launch of the Xbox 360 last year. There were problems with hardware shortages but last month, Microsoft Europe boss Chris Lewis pledged that there will be no shortfall this Christmas - and with only the Nintendo Wii to compete against, MS could be set to clean up.

This really is a terrible mistake. The European market is among the largest and most demanding. Not very wise to delay them. ❌

Your thinking along the lines of... "How can people use the internet to make a phonecall if you dont use phone numbers for an IP address or IP address' as your phone number?". Same for iMAX, they use regular film but with different framerates and special lenses.

HD is similar in that the program gets recorded on an Digital Camera. However I think your asking about how old movies get to be HD, they just convert it to that format.

"Sony still plans to ship 6 million PS3 units globally before the end of the 2007 fiscal year. " - SONY

Shortage for about 6 months, chances are they will rush the assembly line which will result in faulty hardware.

No way. Sony has sorely f***ed themselves now. The Wii will launch in Europe entirely uncontested, and Sony has lost that entire part of the world.

Though think what else this means. If Europe doesn't get the PS3 until March, that means neither Japan nor North America will see price drops for quite a long time. Euro gamers won't buy a full-price PS3 if there's a much cheaper one right across the ocean.

😆

'Tis funny to watch the train-wreck that is the launch of the PS3. 🙂

One must ask oneself: What the flying f*ck are they thinking? euro

In a way this is rather insulting. The costs for the PS3 in Europe are a bit more higher than the US and Japan. And now Sony is telling them to wait longer? That's just bad business.

Europe's always screwed over as it is when it comes to game releases, also. Delaying the PS3 release for 4 months over there will not be endearing Sony to anyone.

Man, Sony's really screwed.

Hmm.

Everyone is saying Sony is ****ed, and much as I would love that, I can't see it being the case. I know the mindset of too many Sony fans for that to put them off in any way. If anything, it'll just strengthen their resolve.

Cognitive dissonance and all that.

Yeah, but if the casual gamers aren't going to bite, it's not going to do as well. The Sony fans are still going to defend it rabidly and buy it, but I really don't think that alone will be enough.

But the number of these Sony fans are dwindling, I think. And if Sony can't get the younger kids/casual gamers as well, it won't sell.

Well, I think we'll find Sony will still have the majority share of the market. Their position, and appeal, is too good.

But all of this, and now surrendering the European Christmas market, has opened up an opportunity for Microsoft to get in the game that I suspect they might otherwise have never had. Sony could have virtually monopoloised the market- there was even talk for a little while of a single format for gaming.

That's dead. Sony have dropped the ball. They'll still lead, but they destroyed their own invulnerability.
