Last-Gen Console Discussions (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii)

Wow.

It's like Sony lost a bet, and they have to do everything they can to disuade people from buying their system as a result.

"Oh, yeah, it's like twice as expensive as our main competetor, but the graphics aren't going to be noticably better, blu ray is the future, but it's kinda disapointing and rushed. No HD cables for you, on top of paying 600 dollars, you need to shell out another 100 for cables to use our system on an HDTV. We have like one interesting game coming out in 06, our other big name game is one based on the "history" of Japan where you fight giant crabs. We don't have an exclusive GTA launch anymore, which was the game directly responsible for the PS2 having such a huge lead, along with Madden. Both of which are available on our competitor's less expensive system, but people will still buy our system to play those games because they're loyal. Our games may cost up to $80 dollars. We ripped off Nintendo's movement sensing controller and took out the rumble feature because it's not possible to have both, despite the fact that other controllers can have both without problem. We're now delaying the PS3 launch everywhere but America and Japan, and we've lowered the amount of consoles we expect to be available in both Countries on launch day to 500,000 combined, and we've not given any details about our online package, but we swear it will be free and as good as Xbox Live, because value is obviously a really important thing for us with the PS3. Riiiiiiidge Raaaaacer!"

That pretty much sums it up.

And people's arguement against all this hoopla is that Sony has the fans to go through these problems and that they won the past two console wars. But they forget the fact that Nintendo was in the same position before they made serious mistakes and that in the real world, brand loyality is a thing in the past.

"Riiiiiiidge Raaaaacer!" 😂 😂 😂

Sony has no brand loyalty. The main reasons PS2 was so successful was because it was the cheapest system that one could play Madden and the GTA games on launch, also they simply didn't have a huge competitor. The Gamecube was geared towards a different group, and the Xbox was new and microsoft was basically trying to find their place in the market. Sony is no longer in that position, the 360 is now. And they have a real, legitimate contender to deal with. Sony simply can't afford to make all these bad decisions.

Did the article say North America which includes Canada, America and Mexico?

Someone already wrote an Angry letter to Sony

http://www.angry-gamer.net/pmwiki.php/Feature/Dear_Sony_Its_Over

Dear Sony: It's Over
I'm sorry that it's come to this, but there was really no other way for me to tell you how I feel. By the time you read this I will be gone. I realise now that it's over between us and has been for a long time now. It's time to stop this charade and admit that we're not right for each other and probably never were.

Remember back in May, when when you showed me that stupid wireless controller thing that nobody else wanted? That was a rough time for me, and all my friends told me that I should leave then, but I stuck it out and I thought we worked past it. I was determined that our future together with the Play Station 3 was going to be worth all the troubles. Blue Ray! Metal Gear Solid 4! It was such a beautiful dream and I wanted it to be true no matter what.

Then you unvieled the price. Six hundred ****ing dollars! Do you even know how much that is? And then there's the exorbitant markup that you gave the European market. I can't afford that. Nobody I know can afford that. And then you tried to placate me with excuses about how it's cheaper than other things, like that fancy computer from Tron. And like a fool i believed you! I even put down a pre-order! Looking back now, I realise i was being naive and that you were just using me for cheap thrills. Well, no more.
Today was the breaking point. Delaying the PlayStation 3 to March 2007 because you couldn't make enough machines in time is the ultimate betrayal. Remember that slide show you put up at E3, Sony?

It said November 17.

Not March 2007.

And then there's the reduced American ship numbers and the paltry Japanese launch - how long until you start letting me down on those promises, too? I can't wait for you to show me any sign of commitment any more. It's over. I've returned my pre-order slip. The lies, the delays, the embarassing press conferences...I've had enough. You can keep your precious Japanese and American release dates. Your pathetic indifference to the promise you made to me about the November release date show you just don't care about my happiness. F*** you, you selfish prick.

I've found someone else. They're reliable. They're here for me. They have a cool range of cheap games. Even that Assassins Creed game that was apparently just for you. It's an Xbox 360 and we're going to be happy together forever now that I'm finally rid of you.
Goodbye.

This picture is worth a thousand words.. 😉

😆

I guess this was just one too many for the people still hoping Sony would pull it off.

I love that letter.

Hahahahahah.

Who was the person who said that Sony will be able to make the launch date even without the PS3 beginning manufacturing?

Sony must know by now, what kind of a hole they have dug for themselves.

It seems they do and see it as no turning back now so let's just keep going with it.

is it comprehensible.....

Why oh why couldn't Mgs4 be on the Wii or 360 too 🙁 http://youtube.com/watch?v=YOd-MsHGqP8 < New killer raiden longer version fight!

400,000 PS3's are coming to North America on launch, 100,000 in Japan.

Do you watch Attack of the Show BackFire?

is it comprehensible.....

Nope.

Oh ok.

Well I can't believe that we actually have the up on Japan. Us? Getting more of ANYTHING than them?

Fook me.

is it comprehensible.....

Fook Yu

😐 😛

I havent been here for a while....anyone care to bring me up to speed on the Wii? Launch date, price, games?

I was so close to getting a 360 the other day.....but then I thought of Red Steel and Zelda...droolio....

Also is there any info on a 360 price drop? I want to trade in my old xbox and games but even then its still a pretty steep cost..

Either they're revising their strategy (massive negative press....) or they're making bundle packages for the PS3.

Sony isn't like Nintendo. They're large, multicorporational firm with tons of capital in several countries. It wouldn't take them long to make their quota. Especially with captial technology the way it is now.

And they have worldwide multinational corporations covering the launch.

It's not so simple as so many of you think.

A) They have more than enough capital to meet the quota

B) They have more than enough supplies to meet the quota

C) Anyone who's taken a business course knows that Sony's taking a cautious approach to the launch. They don't want to overproduce or underproduce. From what I have heard and seen, their main concern is keeping the console profitable by not having overabundance of PS3s. And with the price, would be very possible.

It's smart thing to do. They know that they may not sell 20 somethign million consoles before the end of the cycle, so they produce as many as it would take to remain profitable.

Actually, they didn't really lie. People just misunderstood them (they have a horrible public relations organization in Sony...)

They have started the preparations for production. Namely capital, supply, shipping points, accounting, etc.

Making a product is more than simply MAKING the product. There's a hell of a lot more than that.

They haven't started actually making the product itself. But it's not difficult. The preparations are difficult.

They have robots and machines and computer programs that can make a PS3 on assembly line in a very short amount of time.

Again. It's not like they're making bread in during WWII...

Robotic technology and advanced computer progams can easily make a PS3 in a very short amount of time. Particularly when they have massive amount of outsourcing firms to do it for them. It's not all made in one company in one country by two people with screwdrivers....

I wonder if hes still thinks it will launch world wide?

That info's not out yet, but I think Nintendo was planning on revealing all that this month...September 14th I think?

I'm starting to think maybe it would best for Sony to had launch the PS3 in 2007. All these delays and shortages just show us that they're unprepared or even organized. Simple mediocre business decisions.

It was inevitable the it would be delayed although i at least expected it to be before christmas to bring in more consoles to homes in europe they have dug themselves a massive hole and are going to struggle to get out this is going to force hardcore gamers to purchase a 360 or wii (im getting al 3 i have a 360 already) 🙂 and sony fans were mocking the shortages for 360! 100000 consoles for japan! They lost a load of gamers and trust with this move tbh i would rather hav my console in march 2006 instaed of wait a year for blu-ray i was looking forward to resistance: fall of man so much warhawk too.

Nintendo may pull this one off though the cheap price and novelty of the controller will surely bring in a big fan base (if they pull it off well). Sony is far from out but it has made itself a big distance away from dominating the console market. Not mentioning the worst launch for a large market game console ever!
