Out of intrest who here, because of delays and whatnot for the ps3 is seriously considering get a 360 or wii as an alternative or if your getting all 3 or if you already have a 360..

I own a 360. I will not be getting a PS3 any time soon, and I'm going to hold off on my judgement of the Wii for at least 6 months to a year after launch.

Here's a condensed version of the article.

The idea is this:

1) You buy a game. Sony makes money.

2) You sell a game to GameStop right now, and they give you some money, spendable at GameStop, or if you choose, cash. You make money.

3) GameStop sells that game to somebody else. GameStop makes money.

Sony essentially is replacing step 2 and 3 here with one nice little condensed step.

2b) You sell a game to a friend. Your friend does not pay you in cash. He puts the game in his system, and the system checks for authorization. If you have authorized the sale, your friend pays a used game price (to Sony) of which you recieve a percentage in entitlement points (spendable only to Sony). Sony makes money x 2.

The article also states that every game you buy must be registered, or you will not be able to play that game. That registration process happens via SONY's HDD. Unfortunately there's NO-WAY around this.

😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 If Sony does this they fail. 😆

lol...

Sony do realise they are using blu ray discs for their games which will be incredibly hard to copy, thwarting off piracy anyway? Seriously, why all this bullshit....what happens if you buy a game, activate it, then for some reason the disc doesnt work, and you want to return it to the store for another copy? This is bullshit, screw Sony, I was taking in a bit of interest in the PS3, but if theres too much crap like this, they can get screwed..

Also, what happens further down the track when you want to sell all the games for a newer, or different console? Bit shit if you only have 'Sony credits' to work with. Or if the console breaks and you have to buy a new one...the games are registered on your old one....have they thought around these?

well said, peter..
but will there eventually be a way to pirate ps3 disks?..how long will it take?...is the world safe from such a tragedy? ( 😂 )

sorry for the double post..i was having tea..
anyways..in all fairness to the ps3, werent dvds said to be impossible to be copied or burnt..it took lees than a year for dvds to be able to be burnt and pirated..what makes blueray disks incaplable of being copied??
ps..yes, i know im being hypocritical, but my bro malkes interesting arguments..

Well...dvd burners were for retail sale, plus mod chips were flying around everywhere. I dont see any blu ray burners for sale so far, not to say they wont be released eventually, but I think Sony will be pretty safe for a while...not to mention the cost of a blu ray disc, 1 blank DVD used to cost like $10, for 4.5gb space, imagine a 50gb disc...you may as well buy the original game, at least then you can re sell it and get your money back. Plus, blu ray is quite new, PS3 is virtually the only machine that can play them, so until they become a bit more mainstream, we have little purpose for burning blu ray discs. And back to the mod chip thing, a mod chip for ps2 cost like $50 here, and if it stuffed the machine up, just pay another $400 for a new one, whereas given how expensive the PS3 will be, its not worth forking out over $1000 for another one in case you stuff one up.

Plus add in PS3's previously mentioned activation thing, even if you burnt a game, you cant play it. But of course someone will figure how to hack the hdd and bypass the activation thing...gotta love and hate hackers.

oh ok..

is it comprehyensible.....

I'll b gettin a wii next year because i will have enough money to have bought a few release games for ps3 and to get gears of war and a few newer game for the 360 so i proberbly wont have enough money for a wii straight off and i'm also gunna evaluate the way the wii controller works i think it could be great (could) but if its really hard to control games and if it's hard to adjust to then i might not get it.

Actually, I was just looking up how much various computer parts cost the other day, and they do have blu-ray burners on sale. It cost like $750 though. But like everything else, the price will go down as it's been around longer.

That also means you can't rent video games for Ps3.

Yeah but back when dvd burners first came out, they had a point, dvds were already mainstream. Blu ray burners are useless right now, seeing as how blu ray devices are pretty much non existant. Even for that prices, you could just buy a second PS3 for that. So Sony dont need to worry about piracy for a while.

lemme get this straight
when you buy a ps3 game, you have to register it at the store, or when you place it in the console??
