I'd think most people are aware of the low numbers of PS3's available at launch, it's no secret, but you never know.
What I'd do if I worked at a gamestore, is make a sign that morning saying "PS3's sold out!!!!!" and hang it up when they're all sold out. Then when someone comes it asking about it you can save your vocal cords and just point to the sign.

It's no secret, but it doesn't stop people from being 1) dumb as rocks and 2) expecting one anyway.
And...I might just do that, if the managers let me get away with it.
At least with the PS3 launch, it's on a Friday. I have classes on Friday, so if I work that day, chances are they'll be gone before I get there, and thus the worst of the hecticness over with.
Wii launch is on Sunday...weekend, kids not in school, and a larger amount available at launch. Definitely will be nuttier. But as we probably won't sell out in 10 minutes, we won't have to deal with tons of people complaining that they couldn't get their system immediately.

It's part of a whole. Pricing is part of a console's general portfoilio which makes out whether, as a product, it is any good or not. One of the things that made the Game Boy great? Cheap.More particularly with the PS3, price is part oif a symptomn of what has come to sum up everything that has gone wrong about it. Sony blew the console market apart when it first introduced the PS by making console gaming sleek, easy and accessible to much larger audiences than ever before. The PS was uncomplicated, powerful enough for what it needed to do, and marketted to perfection. The PS2 carried on that trend.
The PS3 has reversed it, and were it not for the enormous existing consumer base could not possibly get away with it. The PS3 is NOT simple; it is extremely complicated and ass a result Sony is facing a huge production problem, which is leading to game development issues, enormous supply problems (which have hit the European market particularly hard) and, yes, it being nastily overpriced.
Sony have got the strategy all wrong and it will cost them. The price is not hiugh just because Sony is being an ass about it. The price is high because of innate design issues with the PS3. Therefore, criticising the console itself on terms of its price is reasonable.
If the Wii cost as much as the PS3, THEN you could say it was only the Wii's price that sucked, not the console. It would be an unreasonable price. The PS3 has a reasonable price- it is the product that is unreasonable.
Bingo. 👆

Which means I can nip out to whatever store has the best bonuses for the Wii right after church. I'll have one before lunchtime. 😄

Did you get the job at EB Lana? Let me tell you a short story, I worked at Best Buy during the XBOX360 launch and it was organized well. They only let 5 people in every 5 minutes or so to prevent choas and to prevent stealing. 2 guys camped for 3 days in temp that were below 10 just to buy one and smash it infront of other buyers. You may have seen their site its called smash my xbox or something, they have a video of it and they are going to do the same with PS3 and Wii. They were idiots tho cause the lineup didnt start until the night before launch.

You worked at that Best Buy? That's sweet, dude. That video is awesome. The best part was when one of the onlookers immediately asked if he could have their controller, he was ****ing prepared.

Yeah, I got the job, I start on Monday...and yeah, I saw that video. I'm just hoping the fact that it launches on a Friday will help as most kids will be in school.
Congrats on getting the job, I have a feeling there will be choas number one reason being limited amounts. You will probably see a fight or people complaining they didnt get one. By the way do you know how many your store will be getting. At Best Buy they only had 150 with only 50 being the Premium bundle. I would think with only 400K going to North America or just America your store would only recieve no more than 50.

Ya I worked at that store. I saw them there 3 days before launch but like I said they were idiots, those 3 days the temperature was below 10 and the lineup didnt start until the night before. Whats even wierder is if you think about the number of console that were defective, that was probably one of them 😛

I have no idea how many our store will be getting, I still haven't officially started yet 😛 I'll know soon though. Considering how few preorders were available per store I would say not many, though.
