Yeah, well. They have to pay $3000 for the system. So to hell with them! 😬

Hopefully, the whole "The PS3 sucks because it's too expensive and my ghetto-ass can't afford it!" will die down.

Personally, it's as pathetic as saying the Ipod sucks because you have to pay $400 for it.

😐

You think its pathetic because some people can't afford a $600 system? Try adding the price of two games and a controller to that and it comes out to about $780 plus tax will be another $80 or so... So have fun spending over $800 on a ****ing PS3

Difference is, you know, the iPod's worth it.

And Apple doesn't act like arragont as*holes whenever asked about their product. 😉

You know, Draco's right about that. The PS3 doesn't suck. It probably is the best console, technologically. It's the price that sucks.

People confuse the two alot, though.

The Ipod is an overpriced harddrive.

😬

The Tobisha Gigabeat S is FAR better in terms of technology, resources, durability, sound quality, and storage.

Not to mention it's nearly half the price of the Ipod.

A music playeris worth $400 to you....but a next-gen console with a chockload of features including Blu-Ray for $100 more is completely not worth it...?

😐

Honey, you read me wrong.

I think it's pathetic to dislike, bash and ridicule a product that doesn't deserve it because it's out of their price range.

Would you think that Porches, Ferraris, and Lamborghnis suck because you can't afford it?

Nope.

It's basically a netwide simultaneous, infectious temper tantrum that people are throwing because they can't have it.

My sister is the same way. She wants this $40 dollhouse from Bratz but she can't afford it....so she throws a temper tantrum and says it sucks anyway to all her friends so she can be "alternative".

It's part of a whole. Pricing is part of a console's general portfoilio which makes out whether, as a product, it is any good or not. One of the things that made the Game Boy great? Cheap.

More particularly with the PS3, price is part oif a symptomn of what has come to sum up everything that has gone wrong about it. Sony blew the console market apart when it first introduced the PS by making console gaming sleek, easy and accessible to much larger audiences than ever before. The PS was uncomplicated, powerful enough for what it needed to do, and marketted to perfection. The PS2 carried on that trend.

The PS3 has reversed it, and were it not for the enormous existing consumer base could not possibly get away with it. The PS3 is NOT simple; it is extremely complicated and ass a result Sony is facing a huge production problem, which is leading to game development issues, enormous supply problems (which have hit the European market particularly hard) and, yes, it being nastily overpriced.

Sony have got the strategy all wrong and it will cost them. The price is not hiugh just because Sony is being an ass about it. The price is high because of innate design issues with the PS3. Therefore, criticising the console itself on terms of its price is reasonable.

If the Wii cost as much as the PS3, THEN you could say it was only the Wii's price that sucked, not the console. It would be an unreasonable price. The PS3 has a reasonable price- it is the product that is unreasonable.

There is a rather thought provoking article directed a Sony and the PS3.

Geez, Sony would have to do HORRENDOUSLY badly to tank in the VG market.

I mean... if the PS2 had sold half of what it did, and the sales for any competing console doubled, Sony would still have been the market leader. That's how much of a lead the brand has.

Sony has made mistakes, but... I can't see it being THAT bad.

I really, really feel the need to throw that controller at someone or something. It looks like a freaking boomerang.

that article actually made me feel better about sonys position, they're not that bad. its only a hundred dollars more than the 360 and its the better system. not taht id pay for it lol.

The article does have very doom prophecy for the PS3. As negative as it may seem...it still raises some good points.

yeah its a little propaganda-ish, especially towards the end.

The PS3 will not bankrupt an multinational corporation like Sony.

They could sell approximately 4 consoles in the entire world and they still wouldn't be bankrupt. They'd certainly be hurting but they certainly wouldn't declare bankruptcy.

The game sector of their corporation only makes up a small portion of their stock. Which isn't worth much in comparison to the the other capital they have.

Jesus, whoever wrote this article is brain dead and doesn't know crap about money, banking or simple economics.

Good post as always Ushgarak.

I just found the source of the article by the way:

If you visit the site, it's very anti-Sony, and it's written by some wannabe gangsta girls in some trashy ghetto.

Yep, they're reliable.

But thats comparing two completely different things... Consoles are supposed to appeal to the everyday gamer, not filthy rich people. Sony just dug their grave IMO... I mean all of the little kids who don't have jobs and want a PS3 are going to ask their parents right? Well, when their parents go out to get the console and they see a $600 PS3 next to a $250 Nintendo... what do you think they'll buy?

I'm not arguing that. That wasn't my point.

I was arguing that's absolutely asinine, pathetic and just plain immature to actively and provactively bash a console as defunct or broken simply for it's price.

Saying the PS3 technology and games suck because you can't afford is just immature.

On that note, the PS3 currently isn't being marketed towards children. It never has. That' Nintendo's forte. It's being marketed towards young adults and adults.

The demand of PS3s clearly hasn't dropped. It's preorders have already sold out and people are willing to spend $3000 on Ebay for the system. The demand for PS3 is almost considered inelastic by the numbers because people are still buying it for the $600 price.

Also, it's rather early to judge the market since both systems are not out yet and the business cycle hasn't begun. The best time to judge the market is not at the release date but at least two to three years from now.

By way, did you know that the PS2 was sold for $500 dollars when it first released? That's the same price as the current PS3.

Sony didn't dig it's grave then now did it?

Yep, Sony's gonna crash and burn all right:

All those people in line willing to spend $100 on a PRE-ORDER that MAY get them a console on release. That's how high the demand for PS3 is.
