Actually, I read an article about how christmas lights may cause the Wii sensor bar to go mad. Strong direct sunlight, too. I think it's an infrared connection or something, but I know the sun and some artificial light sources can mess with it.

Actually, the sensor bar itself doesn't sense anything, the wii-mote does. The purpose of the sensor bar is so that the wii-mote knows where the edges of the screen are and stuff. You can pretty much simulate the sensor bar using two regular TV remote controls, though it won't be as accurate.

Or candles.

You can use lit candles instead of the sensor bar.

Sony still not worried...

December 4, 2006 - While the PlayStation 3 is now out in North America and Japan, most of the world is waiting until next March to get its hands on the most powerful/expensive console ever. By the time the PS3 launches in Australia, the Wii and Xbox 360 will have a four-month and 11-month head start, respectively. But Sony apparently isn't worried about the delay, confident that Blu-Ray will carry the system to victory in the next-generation console wars.

"The Wii-type functionality is more just a sub-element of what the PlayStation 3 offers," Nic Foster, general manager for Sony Australia & New Zealand, told the Sydney Morning Herald. "Wii is a core gaming device. It's a more fun, intuitive sort of product to pick up, where the PS3 is a broader entertainment solution; so you can have your fun, enjoyable gaming…but then you have a whole suite of other applications...such as Blu-ray media playback, the ability to access your music, access your photos and the interoperability with the PlayStation Portable.

"Gamers are extremely aware of what they're after and what they want. So gamers will already have a very good understanding of what PlayStation 3 offers versus what Wii offers and many of them will probably have both devices."

Sony Europe isn't losing any sleep over the wait for the PS3, either. Part of the reason for the delay, and for the small shipment numbers seen in the U.S. and Japan, is a difficulty in manufacturing the Blu-Ray laser diodes. But Paul Holman, vice-president of technology at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, says it would have been "messy" to offer a Blu-Ray player later as an accessory, as Microsoft has done with its HD-DVD player for the 360.

I like how he said that Wii "It's a more fun, intuitive sort of product to pick up". lol

Okay, so the general manager of Sony in Australia and New Zealand just admitted that the Wii is more fun, and the PS3 is not a game system, but an "entertainment solution."

...Cool. What exactly was the entertainment question?

"The Wii-type functionality is more just a sub-element of what the PlayStation 3 offers,"

Yes, the Walmarts near me are getting more Wii's on Wednesday as well. I don't know if I'll be getting one though. I'll try. I'll have to get up early Wednesday morning/Tuesday Night and drive over from my school to Wal-Mart. I wonder how that'll work. 😕

Do yall think the cold will damage the Wii, if I get one and leave it outside in my vehicle in the parking garage until I go home this weekend?

leave it in the box and make sure that noone can steal it, and it should be fine 😛..

I like their strategy...

"The Wii is more fun if you like videogames, but if you like movies and music, our videogame system is for you."

But who in their right mind would buy a videogame system for music and films?

Edit: Started reading the conversation at too late of a post.

Do you have to use the Wiimote on games, or can you opt for the normal control thingy? Games like Red Steel, or basically any FPS really, that rely on the targeting thing, is it a MUST have thing? Some games I think I'd feel more comfortable playing with a normal control..

Im pretty sure they are Wiimote only, the classic controller is only got Virtual Console games.

For now at least. Some future games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl (and probably a lot of cross-platform games) will be using the classic controller. It's really meant for any games for which the Wiimote is not ideal.
