Last-Gen Console Discussions (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii)

I own a PS3 and i'm pleased with it.Its reliable unlike the 360 (I have a friend who's had 3 so far which is bad considering he's only owned it 6 months) and has a steady games supply in the works which may become a major issue for the Wii.The price however is sure to fall (I got mine with a £85 discount due to buying it with a particular kind of credit card) as £425 is too steep a price for a games console.

P.S Has anyone here ran Yellow Dog Linux on a PS3? I'm considering it but don't really know how to go about it.

now, how about you swap the words "ps3" and "wii" around, cuz i believe youve got everything confused..
the wii has a far better range of popular franchises coming, while nearly every fnachise the ps3 held on to is now on the xbox 360

I would own a PS3 except its too expensive... now a days 360s dont just die on their own, you either dont have good ventilation or you neglect other things to prevent it from dying. PS3 is better than 360 (hardware wise) but for the price I would rather build a top of the line PC.

As for the linux stuff... unless you know how to operate Linux then I wouldnt recommend it plus this is friggin console... why would anyone install an OS on it.

I plan on getting a PS3 in a week or two, mainly for BluRay though(that should tell you something).

(Compliments to Ashtar for the video.)

Intresting vid, it was posted in the next gen vs. thread.

YouTube video

LMAO!!

That video makes me want to buy a PS3.

The geek that made that video hopefully made it a long time ago cuz he needs to be up on current events:

Cell Processor:

Fine its hard, whatever. "Its too hard" isn't an excuse for anything in this world.

High definition media:

HD-dvd is the best hands down and offers so many more awesome titles?

You guys know the end of that argument

The part about graphics:

I don't know I'm not a tech person, but willing to bet my house the person that made this video isn't either

Only sold 88,000 units?

I don't think so

Then obviously it was made a long time ago.

Your arguement is kinda of weak with the Cell processor.

Cell Processor:

It sure the **** is an excuse if it loses you money, thus making your business less profitable.

Other than the appalling spelling problems... did that vid maker REALLY say Betamax was released seven years ago, or was that just a bad dream of mine?

I'm sure that when they put seven, they really meant 32... ermm

Indeed, that vid is a pile of misinformation now. Most of the issues have been resolved at this point.

I mean... I HAD a betamax...

Can someone explain to me about this dumbass rumor about all TVs requiring some kind of box to turn on in two years? My step-dad is paranoid over it and won't let me buy an HDTV for my room now. I heard it just makes every older TV nullified, and Plasmas/HDTVs will be required.

No, that's a stupid rumor that's been going around for a few months now. TV signals are being switched over from analog to digital. Normal TVs can still be hooked up to digital receivers, though, so no, it is not eliminating older TVs.

EDIT - Okay, misread that... the required box is a new thing to me.

Never ever heard anything about a box. The only thing I could think of that meaning is a digital receiver or something like that.

And digital does not automatically equal HD.

Yeah, digital reciever, is that just a rumor that people are eating up, or do they know which tvs it's going to work for yet?

I honestly have no idea.

I've had digital cable for...about 6 years now, I think, and we have a cable box for our main TV, but the others in the house work fine as well. And none of our TVs are very new.

Well, as I said, current digital receivers are capable of hooking up to analog TVs. As HDTVs are still too expensive for the majority of people to afford, it is unlikely that they would purposely change that in the future. It would just lose them a large amount of their current audience.

Yeah, analog TV in a couple of years will cease to exist and you have to get an digital box.

So basically, if you have composite hookups to your TV, you should be fine.

Just checked my box, regular R/V cable inputs work too.

So every TV will be fine.

Does R/V mean the Red, Yellow, and White cables for Audio and Video?

Basically, if I buy a Samsung HDTV for instance, will I be alright for the reciever?
