Companies have been successfully selling technology for far more than $600 for many years.

Anyway, I really don't think that the pricedrop is going to help sales a huge amount. It'll bump them up, sure, but I really doubt by much. Not enough to earn Sony any sort of profit any time soon, especially as now they're going to be losing even MORE money per system.
but i did read an article about how nintendo is considering releasing an assortment of colors, and with this change that they might drop the price to $200
i dont have a link, but ill keep looking
EDIT: found it http://dpad.gotfrag.com/wii/story/35840/

May want to check the dates in that article... clearly did not turn out to be true...

You would think that announcing the price cut would bring a more positive look on the PS3....well, I have to say, not really....JFIDsTsWJHw&eurl=
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/petermooreletter.htmTo our Xbox Community:
You've spoken, and we’ve heard you. Good service and a good customer experience are areas of the business that we care deeply about. And frankly, we've not been doing a good enough job.
Some of you have expressed frustration with the customer experiences you have had with Xbox 360; frustration with having to return your console for service after receiving the general hardware error message on the console
The majority of customers who own Xbox 360 consoles have had a terrific experience from their first day, and continue to, day in and day out. But when anyone questions the reliability of our product, or our commitment to our customers, it's something I take very seriously.
We have been following this issue closely, and with on-going testing have identified several factors that can cause a general hardware failure indicated by three flashing red lights on the console. To address this issue, and as part of our ongoing work, we have already made certain improvements to the console.
We are also implementing some important policy changes intended to keep you in the game, worry-free.
As of today, all Xbox 360 consoles are covered by an enhanced warranty program to address specifically the general hardware failures indicated by the three flashing red lights on the console. This applies to new and previously-sold consoles. While we will still have a general one year console warranty (two years in some countries), we are announcing today a three-year warranty that covers any console that displays a three flashing red lights error message. If a customer has an issue indicated by the three flashing red lights, Microsoft will repair the console free of charge—including shipping—for three years from the console’s purchase date. We will also retroactively reimburse any of you who paid for repairs related to problems indicated by this error message in the past. In doing so, Microsoft stands behind its products and takes responsibility to ensure that every Xbox 360 console owner continues to have a fantastic gaming experience.
If we have let any of you down in the experience you have had with your Xbox 360, we sincerely apologize. We are taking responsibility and are making these changes to ensure that every Xbox 360 owner continues to have a great experience.
This will take a few days to roll out globally, and I appreciate your continued patience as we launch this program. I've posted an FAQ that should address some additional questions, and we'll update it over the next few days.
I want to thank you, on behalf of all us at Microsoft, for your loyalty.
Has this been put into full motion yet? I'm wondering 'cause my 360 crashed and gave me 3 red lights 15 minutes ago.
AHH!

price drop Bumped it up 3200% in sales on amazon and made it the #1 selling video game product. wonder how long the boost will last.
I'd really like to know if anybody can tell me what exactly went wrong with my Wiimote and Wii last night.
Here's what happened:
I had been playing with it earlier in the day. I came back to it later at night and I used the Wiimote power button to turn the console on. I selected my game that was inserted into the console to play. I get to the screen that says to make sure your wrist strap is on.
After a few seconds, I click the "A" Button to pass that screen as usual but nothing happens. It stays on that screen. And when I press a Button on my Wii mote, the lights along the bottom of my wiimote blink a number of times and then stops and the 1st Player box doesn't remain lighted. Another screen pops up on my television that says connect the Nunchuck to my Wiimote...........but it was connected so I had no idea what that meant. I tried pushing it in tighter, I tried disconnected it and reconnecting.
So I decided to press the power button on my Wiimote to turn the system off and start again, but that's not working either. So I use the power button on the console itself to turn it off and that works.
So I try the power button again on the wiimote to turn the system back on and it doesn't work. Keep in mind that everytime I press a button on my wiimote, the boxes along the bottom of the wiimote still blink a few times and then stop and goes blank.
So the point is my wiimote was acting funny and not responding to my console. I get my books out and read some Troubleshooting and I decided to try and Sync up my wiimote to the console again. I press the sync button on the wiimote and the lights blink constantly without stopping as they're supposed to do. I press the sync button on the console and they continue to blink for some time until they just stop and all goes blank instead of the 1st player box remaining lighted up as it's supposed to do.
So I'm lost and stuck and have no idea what's wrong or how to fix it. I decided to unplug my Wii for 2-3 minutes b/c that helped last time we had a thunder storm and the console's Red LED light turned off and the console wouldn't turn on, and after I plugged it back up, everything was working again.
And now, I don't know if it's me or if it's really happening, but it seems when I choose the Wii System Configuration Box, the background music continues to play but it seems the screen stays blacker than usual before it pops up the Wii Configurations options, such as "Calendar" and the such.
I think I remember the transition being much faster. Choosing the message board and memory card areas seems okay and doesn't lag as much when choosing them. But when I choose Wii configurations and even The "Mii" and "Photos" section, the screen kind of goes blank for too long and the console itself goes silent. I hear no spinning of the disc inside and the fan seems to stop and the 1st player box on my controller that's lighted up, goes blank for a second or 2 before lighting up and the screen coming up showing me what I selected.
I don't know if it's just me and it's always been this way or in fact something actually has changed with my system and if so, if it's something serious that may turn into something worse.
Anybody else experience anything like this or know what exactly happened and if in fact my Wii transitions are slower than usual or if it's normal, b/c when I first got it back working and I was on the Screen that allows you to select Memory Cards or Wii Settings and I chose the Wii Settings box, the screen went black for a few seconds longer than what I think it used to and it got so silent I actually think the console had turned off b/c when you choose Wii Message Board or the Wii Memory Card section, the screen hardly goes black at all and goes straight to what you selected, popping up the next screen very quickly.

For the first experience with the remote flaking ouut- yes, that happens to me sometimes too. The remotes occasionally seem to completely de-synch with the Wii and refuse to re-tune through any means I can find, except for a complete power shutdown and restart off the Wii (via the power cable, NOT via the off switch- unplug and replug).
It has happened three times to me in the seven months I have owned it- a pain but my PC flakes out way more.
But I never experienced any noticeable disruption afterwards I am afraid.
has happened to me about 5 times
i just sync the wiimote and the wii again
there is a red button underneath the battery cover on the wiimote, and there is another red button underneath a small panel on the front of the wii
press those buttons simultaneously ad it should sync your controller back into the first player spot
lol @ the sony rep dancing around the interviewers questions.. that was awesome
Interviewer : "Yeah, Wii really KO'ed Ps3.. hell.. even "I" flinched...so how you feelin? need a lil ice for that?.. looks like it hurts..."
Rep : "Uhh well it doesn't matter now.. just you wait 10 years!.. I swear!... *anakin hissy fit pre-pubescent rage glare* "

As both he and I said, the synch process did not work. An answer to a technical query like that is unlikely to be that simple, especially as it is something we have both already had to do when we first synched the remotes so it's not as if we don't know how to do it, hmm?
That interview... wow. I love how the interviewer was pointing out the solid fact that the Wii is kicking PS3's output port, and all the poor guy could do was blink very fast and say "Well, in 10 years..."
Oh, and "Look, I appreciate that you want to put a positive spin on things, but can't you just acknowledge the fact PS3 is in last place?"
