Last-Gen Console Discussions (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii)

I'm looking forward to Halo Wars, Halo 3: Recon and FFXIII....if that is scheduled for release next year. Oh yeah Tekken 6 for the PS3 too.

FFXIII is not going to be out next year. Maybe out in Japan by the end of the year. But considering there's generally a 6 month lead time between when an FF is released in Japan and is released in the US...it won't happen next year. And that's not even taking into account how often FF games get delayed.

Sadly you're right cry

im waiting for lotr: conquest, and star trek online... thought it was cancelled, but after seeing the trailer, i'm back on board, and can't wait...

that and aliens: colonial marines...

Wii Sports Resort is a definite. I've kinda got one eye on The Conduit, but I do worry it's all hype and no trousers.

It's real short on killer Nintedo franchises I am interested in. Stuff like Pikmin or rumours about Kid icarus don't give me much enthusiasm; it's still too early for Zelda. I'd like to hear about something like new Starfox.

After WSR comes out and we have the new Wii dongle, the next Tiger Woods game should be a good buy. With any luck we'll see other games using it before the year is out too.

PC wise I have Dawn of War 2, the first Starcraft 2 and Empire: Total War. Those are pretty big titles actually, and much as I have become disillusioned with the latter two franchises they still deserve my attention.

But yes, what we have is a whole lot of quiet on the superhype front.

can't believe i forgot that one... facepalm

With the new direction they are going in, that one is either going to be an SCII crushing marvel that shows all how RTS games should be going or a massive disappointment...

Well I think Dawn of War 2 is a continuation of the advancements that Relic has made with the original and Company Of Heroes, and also what World In Conflict did.

I dont think its an entirely new direction though.

It doesnt really matter though, its looks absolutely amazing.

I'm looking forward to Dawn of War 2, RE5, Project Origin and Starcraft 2.

I'm also looking forward to Dragon Age: Origins and downloadable content for Left 4 Dead.

It is true that WiC was also resourceless/baseless and this is probably just down to how you consider advancement, but I think the point is how they are trying to re-think the whole nature of how RTS games work. All WiC did was remove the resources and buildings; DoW2 is doing more than that. You never start form zero except from the staryt of a campaign, the stripping away of resource and base management but still trying to keep ti flowing in RTS style, in a different way to how WiC worked, the merging of that with RP elements, a non-linear campaign, andthe idea that each mission should not take more than 15 minutes because most of the rest of missions in RTS games was normally redundant... I think it combines enough to justify their claim of a new direction.

Of course it is possible- as is always the risk with non-linear campaigns- that a lot of the misisons will be repetitive and boring, and the persistent upgradeable squad mechanic may just leave you thinking "X-Com was doing this years ago!".

And you will never bypass the problem that if your squads are uogradeable, then the enemies only become more dangerous anyway- the ultimate issue of all computer game RP mechanics; so they have to pull off the illsuon of progress rather well. Giving distinct and irreversible development choices that truly afffect how you play is the key here

Still, we'll see. I'm hopeful. A shame the single player is Marines only at first, but with SCII gone the ame way that seems to be the style now.

If you consider it that why, I guess its a new direction.

Hopefully they get it right. I thought it was going for a more narrative structure of missions similar how a shooter would work.

Uncharted 2, HalfLife Episode 3 and finally...The Old Republic.

Oh shit I forgot about Resident Evil 5. And...Episode 3 is actually coming out? Sweet! It has big shoes to fill. Episode 2 was AWESOME.

Ep 3 isn't coming out next year.

There has been rumors that Ep3 might turn into Half Life 3, or that its taking a long time because of a new engine.

There not doing HalfLife 3, and yes the date is targeted for next year.

Damn straight. 🙂

Ok I've got Guitar Hero World Tour, and since I've never played any previous GH games, if I download say a GH3 song on Live will it work in GH:WT?

no..

Talked to Lana on xbox live and she said PoP is teh Awesome.

I am currently playing the TR: Underworld demo and it is fun. I wish TR managed to get back to its prime, but after all those mediocre games they released its going to be tough. Well at least they realized what they were doing wrong. Unlike other developers out there.
