"I see," she said while veering sharply to the left avoiding another gang. Mo looked over her shoulder every now and then to see if he was still by her. She didn't need to be blamed for losing Jay. Then she thought about his question. "Well... I only like to fly at night, the light of day draws too much attention to myself. And the cold night air is such an exhilarating rush, I need a little excitement in my life..." she said, enjoying a small inside joke, like she needed any more excitement than thieving and running from whatever was after her. Maureen thrived off of such things. She then glanced back at him smiling, "And the bed was fine, thank you."

Jay smiled, he felt safe with Maureen around. "How long can you stay with us?" Jay asked shyly as he looked up at Maureen.

( how old is Jay?)

"Hmm.." she said, thinking. "That is a very good question. I..I'm not that sure, Jay." Maureen was not about to get cross or sarcastic with him, even though she probably would've been with others. He hadn't been told the black truth of her past, and although she couldn't keep him from knowing forever, Mo was trying to show him now she wasn't a convict.

But that plan was crushed by a low bone chilling voice, "Maureen..." She had forgotten to look before they walked past an ally. "Jay, the main road is right over there. I'll be at the house later." Her voice was calm but had an urgency about it. Mo did not want him around for this.

Jay hesitated. "What's going on? Don't you want to come home?" Jay asked, feeling a little confused. Jay remembered a small pouch that he carried around, there were a few bottles of potions that Jay had mixed together. "Raly said I had to save these for real emergencies... I hope I don't need these tonight." Jay thought to himself, pushing the pouch behind his back and opening the strap that held it closed.

"Just go, I'll be there later." her voice was still calm, but it was also as stern as she could make it. A man started to approach them, Mo would've just taken Jay and flew him home, but her wings could barely support her own weight at the moment. "Maureen, it has been too long." said the man. Mo would take flight as soon as Jay was gone, but only when she knew he was well out of the area.

Jay jumped in front of Maureen, he didn't want to leave her with the stranger. "I don't have to know who you are to know that you aren't welcome here." Jay said, tensing up.

"Jay!" she yelled pulling him closer to her. "Please Jay, just go home. I'll be there soon. Go!" Mo pushed him towards the main road, hoping that he would stay away this time. She turned back to the man, Mo spread her wings slightly, hoping that Jay was gone. But she was greeted with the back of the man's hand to the side of her face. The blow sending her to the ground. This wasn't going to be as easy as she had planned.

Mo laid on the ground, trying to regain clear vision. The man knelt beside her and whispered in her ear, "What have I told you about showing your wings to me?" He pulled her viciously up by her hair. "You're little friend is waiting, don't ever come around here again." He shoved her towards Jay. Maureen shot a dirty look at him, and ran to Jay, taking him finally to the main road.

Jay growled at the man and tried to attack him. "Why you dirty son of a..." Jay said just before Maureen grabbed him and started carrying him away. "How dare you hit a lady! Why I oughta..." Jay continued until he could no longer see the man. Jay then looked at Maureen and saw the bruise on her face. "I'm sorry... that wouldn't have happened if I'd have listened." Jay said, his hands trembling. "I'm sorry." Jay said as he began to cry.

Mo looked down at the sobbing Jay, and she gently put an arm around his shoulder. It was so odd for her to be caring, she was normally revolted by her own feelings let alone a young boys. She raised her free hand to her cheek, feeling the throbbing bruise under her eye. "Listen... This wasn't your fault, it probably would've been worse if you left." She looked up when they reached the front porch of the house. "You better go tell Raly you're alright. I'll be in soon," Mo said sitting on the front step, she needed time to think things through.

Jay nodded and hugged Maureen before he went inside where Raly had been waiting. Raly walked over to Jay and gave him a stern look. "You had me worried. You do remember what I told you about going out on your own at night, don't you?" Raly asked, sounding angry, yet patient.

Jay nodded and looked down at the floor. "Yes sir... I'm really sorry... but I saw..." Jay began pointing out the window toward the town.

Raly put up his hand. "No, I don't want to hear excuses. You know you are supposed to tell me or Axel if you see anything that might be dangerous." Raly said, no longer sounding angry, but relieved that Jay was alright. "Go on and get to bed, we'll talk about this again in the morning." Raly said sounding calm again. Jay nodded and went to his bed quickly. Raly put out a few candles so Jay could get some sleep. "Good night kiddo." Raly said as he stepped out side to get some air. "Thanks for bringing him home, miss Mo... I owe you one." Raly said calmly as he looked out at the moonlit farm yard.

axel had returned home with a satisfied smirk on his face and walked ot his room

Maureen sat on the front step, leaning against a post for support. She stared up at the stars, tonight had been a complete blur where only the impact of the man's hand as it connected with her face was the prominent memory. She shifted slightly as Raly came outside, he didn't seem angry, Jay obviously hadn't told him about their little encounter. Mo didn't turn to look at Raly when she spoke, "It was nothing, anyone would've helped him."

Raly was silent for a second. "Maybe... but you were the one who did." Raly said as he sat down. "And you can trust me when I say it wasn't nothing... I'm very grateful that you took the time to bring Jay home... I can't imagine what I might do if something happened to him... he's like a brother to me." Raly said getting quiet again.

he grinned "yep i had fun too i scared the life out of them litterally" he said ammused

Mo turned to face Raly as he spoke to her, ignoring her throbbing purple mark that had finally stopped swelling. He was truely thankful, and he cared so much about Jay, she couldn't help but to be glad she helped him. "It was no problem... really." Maureen responded to the now silent Raly

Jay laughed, feeling a little sleepy. "Thanks for helping me out Axel... see you in the morning." Jay said as he pulled his blanket over himself and went to sleep.

Raly remained silent. "Maureen... I have a request." Raly said, still sounding quiet.

This can't be good, she thought. Never had Raly called her by her real name, and he sounded serious yet unsure of what he was about to ask of her. Her fierce raven-like eyes met his, "Yes?"

Raly looked at Maureen seriously. "I want you to stay here with me and Jay." Raly said, sounding sure of what he was saying.

Maureen's eyes widened, she definitely was not expecting that. Her expression quickly changed to a stern glare, her eyes narrowing, was he joking? "Are...are you serious?" she asked.
He couldn't possibly be, there was just no way. Mo had been rude and ungrateful, he even knew she had stolen from him... even if she did deny it. Just bringing Jay home shouldn't've been enough to gain such trust... was it?

Raly kept a strait face. "I am quite serious Maureen, I want you to stay here. Jay likes you, and I won't be able to sleep at night thinking you got caught stealing or got roughed up by some thug." Raly said stepping closer to Maureen. "I noticed you have a bruise... I want you to stay here so that you are away from people who would do that to you."
