Man...I have to admitt. I went through most of this thread and I am impressed. Imo now I can see why Aquaman has left Namor at the bottom of the Ocean as far as popularity goes.

Who had their first ongoing series? Submariner or Aquaman?

Namor had "Sub-Mariner Comics" which started in 1941. Aquaman (who made his first appearance in 1941) didn't have his own self titled comic until 1962, but he'd featured prominently in "More Fun Comics" and "Adventure Comics" up until then.

Glad you liked the thread. 🙂

Recently as part of OYL Kurt Busiek took over the title and drastically changed it, making a completely new character (who looks exactly the same and has the same name as the classic Aquaman) the main character of the book.

The classic Aquaman (who, during the missing year has lost his memory and mutated into the picture i posted on the last page), believed he was seeing prophecies about Aquaman (when in actual fact he was just confusing his own obscure memories for visions of the future), and figured these visions were about the new guy. And the story goes from there.

It's been a good read so far, but the new guy isn't really doing it for me. Classic aquaman in his new "Dwellar in the Depths" form is by far the most interesting part of the book. King Shark is cool too.

Classic Aquaman is the guy thats been AM till now right ? The new guy ay. Got any info on him ?

Basically the "Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis" section will tell you what you need to know. There's a little bit about the new guys abilities aswell a bit further down.

I'm liking the cover of Aquaman #50, Japanese-esque

Where would you place Aquaman (classic) in Marvels strength rating Lcid ? Like class 30 or 40 for example.

I think he is class 100, Lucid I believe puts him around 70-80 tons.

The reason I say 100 tons is he lift an entire city block underwater after he got his magical hand.

I thought the same thing. It looks pretty sweet.

Yeah, looks cool. Double sized issue too, that should be fun. Hopefully Williams run is a good and long one.

As Mungi said, he has feats that are clearly over 100 tons. I don't take the class system literally though, and only use the term "Class 100" to describe top tiers. I rate Aquaman around Class 70. Which is still mighty strong.

Mmmm thanks. Didn't think he was that strong. Especially since the old days in the JLA.

Looks like we'll be finding out how Aquaman was transformed into the Dwellar in April...

She was standing beside Plastic Man's son (Offspring) who was on a stetcher after strecthing himself so thin to save 20 people.

She had speaking lines, but that was it. Not a major appearance

Ahh, cool. Are they still running those 2 page origins in 52? Any idea if Aquaman's getting one?

Still doing it, but as of yet no Aquaman. He will probally get one though, if Metamorpho gets one Arthur better

I hope so. Still, it's good to hear he'll be appearing. I'm wondering if we'll actually find out how he was turned into the Dwellar, or we'll just see that it's happened. Cause there was that page about the 10th age of magic awhile back which had him transforming.

Also, way back when Booster found the black board with all the ominous writings it said "Where is the Curry heir?"...

I really wanna know what that was about.

I think it will be the aftermath and not show what actually happened, as that's a big reveal they just took away from the Aquaman series.

I hope they do reveal it in 52, as Sword of Atlantis is moving very slowly. I'm enjoying it especially the Shark King flashback

Yeah, the flashback arc was ok. I wasn't really feeling how Aquaman was written, and i think i like King Shark more in small doses. The first arc, though the delays hurt it a bit, was still a very solid read and i'm loking forward to the final 2 issues or Busiek's run. Then we have yet another creative change...

Yeah I knew about the creator change, poor Aquaman goes through enough of them

Also I'm liking Busiek's run, but it is going slow.
