How'd you annoy them, like, what did you do/say? What did they say?
"names like Ben or Sarah are distinctly male or female names. Ami, what is that? Seriously? I don't want a unisex name!"
and
"What does 'Ami' mean?" Mother: "Well it means, friend, or friendly, and nice" me; "Haha, what, did you name me ironically or something? did you make my name sarcastic on purpose?"

You're lucky you have a unique name
Mine's so common, there are a million Elizabeth Marie Thompson's
And probably no other Ami-Jay's

The only girly part about it is the 'ami' part, and when you pronounce it the right way, its not even girly
Lul no
I was thinking about changing it to Badger Thompson, or Liz Boogie
but figured I'd want to be taken seriously
so I think I'll change it to Elizabeth Marie Thompson Romero when I'm older
