yeah you should read the book first...Pasolini left out many tiny but crucial passages that kinda explain the motivation for that perverse behaviour..

Possibly because he just wanted to shock people again? Or at least that was his trademark, lots of sex and nudity, lots of shit and vomiting and what not. He only seemed to make erotic adaptations of literary classics. The only 'normal' film I've ever seen of his is Attacone.
no because if he shot child abuse as described in the book (and we're talking about 4-10 year olds) the movie would've never opened..
