I didn't know that.

well yeah they didn't really make it big until '94 but they formed in the late 80s then released their first ep in '89 . then went onto become the best band of all time ever no doubt about it .

I have to add talents like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Elton John, Billy Joel, Billy Idol.. Granted it's more pop it pop rock but still big in the 80's.. And earlier.

Michael Jackson is an interesting one, 'cause going into the '80s he had more of a rock star persona than a pop star persona, and he started crossing over the two genres as they were in the '80s, with stuff like Beat It. He gets lauded (rightfully) as a singer and performer, so it's easy to forget that the guy wrote songs like Billie Jean just on his own. He had a great songwriting talent!
