You don't have to pay a ridiculous amount of taxes over your winnings, as you pay taxes when you buy the ticket. You're name is not publicised as a lottery winner, so you don't have people hounding you for money after you win, etc. All in all the UK is probably the best place to win a lottery.

Yeah. In the US you're ****ed. Honestly, US citizens are better off not winning lotteries. I forgot the exact percentiles but the amount of US lottery winners that have declared bankruptcy/committed suicide is uncanny.
