Look, I’m not saying Smokey the Bear smoked a lot of pot.

I’m just telling you…

…he wasn’t named Smokey..,

…for the reason everyone THINKS he was named Smokey.

Skateboarding, as we know it, was probably born sometime in the late 1940s, or early 1950s, when surfers in California wanted something to do when the waves were flat. This was called "sidewalk surfing" – a new wave of surfing on the sidewalk as the sport of surfing became highly popular.

Alan Gelfand created the first skateboarding trick in 1973. He called it the “Ollie,” and people everywhere were soon trying to copy it. Years later, Tony Hawk entered the first X Games and wowed the world. He was the first to do a “900” trick and won 70 competitions before retiring.

Because skateboarding is an inherently dangerous activity, laws exist to regulate, ban, or control skateboarding in certain locations and circumstances. Skateboarding laws are regulated by state and local ordinances, typically within a jurisdictions health & safety code or state traffic laws.

There are two stances for skateboarding: regular and goofy. Goofy-footers skate with their right foot at the front of the board and push with their left foot. “Riding regular” means that you skate with your left foot as your front foot and push your board with your right foot.

A skateboard makes an effective offensive and defensive weapon against an unarmed victim and one can be carried in most public places and be claimed it is not a weapon.
