I dunno how it works but they dial down the oxygen and pump in some kind of inert gas that suffocates you, boom.

So like while you are suffocating to death you are in total pain. What ever happened to carbon monoxide poisoning

How inert gasses like helium work is to go into the lungs with smaller and smaller amounts of oxygen until you only have helium, so then when all the oxygen is out of your circulatory system your heart and brain just shut down, no pain.

I hate to break it to you, but when you're heart stops, you feel it. It might only be a few minutes but it will be the most painful few minutes of your life
