Apu was an Indian immigrant who ran a convenience store and had an arranged marriage with multiple children and did dodgy sales to people like Homer.

The stereotypes and racism is there, although not done in a hateful way because I liked Apu, as I'm sure most people did. It's just other people didn't like him and now he's gone.
