Crayola produces nearly 3 billion crayons each year, an average of twelve million daily. That's enough to circle the globe 6 times!

In 1990 and for the first time in Crayola history eight colors were retired and placed in the Crayola Hall of Fame: maize, lemon yellow, blue gray, raw umber, green blue, orange red, orange yellow, and violet blue.

White is white, and on white paper, virtually invisible. There isn't much of an off-white look either; it really does look like white paper on another color. It's probably everyone's least used crayon, but it's good for highlighting, and covering an entire page without being able to see what your doing.

The color known as Flesh was renamed Peach in 1962, partially in response to the U.S. Civil Rights Movement. Indian Red was renamed Chestnut in 1999 due to concern that some children thought the crayon color represented the skin color of Native Americans.

By the age of 10 the average child will use up about 730 crayons. That adds up to about 11 boxes of 64 crayons.

Most kids spend an average of almost 30 minutes a day coloring. The two most popular crayon colors are red and blue. There are 96 different Crayola crayon colors, but only 18 different label colors. Similar colors, like peach and apricot, have the same color label.

Although there have been over 400 colors with the Crayola label since 1903, there are currently 120 Crayola crayon colors, including 19 shades of blue.

According to the last Crayola Favorite Color Census, six shades of blue finished in the Top 10 including cerulean, midnight blue, aquamarine, periwinkle, denim and blizzard blue.

Prussian blue was the first Crayola crayon color to get a new name, becoming “midnight blue.” Teachers prompted the change, as children could no longer relate to Prussian history.

Bluetiful. That' was the name of Crayola's new blue crayon inspired by OSU's YInMn blue, the pigment discovered by OSU chemist Mas Subramanian. The announcement came after many months and more than 90,000 submissions by fans around the world.

Big Blue, reportedly the world's largest crayon, was unveiled during the annual Centre Square celebration on Oct 8, 2023. “The 15-foot-tall, 1,500-pound, blue crayon could draw a line from Easton to the Poconos with a 20-pound nub left over,” The Express-Times reported.
