we need a recap on this whole scenario between venom and carnage.
First wee need to take a gander at what happened previous to all this since it's kind of important. Venom shows up to new york in order to kill carnage, when he hunts carnage down the wherehouse they are in explodes into flames, venom survives. Venom then goes to fight carnage, they are on even ground. Eventually Venom faces off with shriek and walks right through her blast, unfortunately by the end of that display of balls he's nearly out of symbiote and finds carnage and shreik waiting for him instead of just shreik. They curbstomp him unconcious since it's just his human body open to the blows. Then they take him and put him over the fire to keep the symbiote from gaining any momentum, when it does gain momentum in it's regeneration carnage blasts it with his sonic gun. During the rest of the time spent there, there is a pretty clear indication that carnage was torturing brock, cutting him, gutting him, etc etc. So while this incident is a decent display of showing what fire can do (keep at bay.... if that) to a symbiote after the symbiote's mass has been reduced to 10% of it's self, while it's being blasted if it reforms any more than that, and while the host's healing abilities are being pushed to their max due to torture to his/her body...
it however is not a good display of venom's durability vs. flames when he is not exhausted from constant battle and then torture (which is again, durabile enough to take an exploding gas tanker without noticing it)...
while it's true the sonic gun feeded venom back a peice of his symbiote that had been regenerating inside the gun it also true that symply having his symbiote back doesn't make him automatically stronger than before in terms of pain threshold.
in any case.. here's some of the torture that's implied in the story...
