Chase heard her words and dropped his stance. Did she mean what she said? His body was numb with shock, or maybe pain and loss of blood. He didn't care or mind. All he wanted was to find some way to spare Alex, to save her from herself...and him. He remembered all of their past scuffles and realized she was one of the people keeping him alive. He honored their friendship, albeit a broken and twisted one. He knew he finally had her where he wanted her: defenseless and vulnerable. But he couldn't do it...not yet. He had to make amends. He walked to her and proped her head on his leg.
"Alex....do you remember when we first met? It was when me and Raven were kissing by the hospital wing. You were annoyed and I almost attacked you...That's kinda how our whole relationship was, huh? Us always fighting...mostly because I'm such a dick...I'm sorry Alex. For everything. I just wanted to make Raven happy and then I got even more demented...My whole life has been a fake...And you lost your life unfairly. I had no reason...no RIGHT to hurt you, both physically and mentally. You just deserve to be treated like a human and not a monster. I can't make up for what I did..but I hope you can forgive me..."
Alex didn't answer him and he felt even more ashamed.
"Do you hate me Alex?"
No answer.
"What am I saying....Of course you do...I have no reason to be forgived...."
He leaned down and kissed her lips, long and gentle. He felt the iciness of her lips and felt another pang of hurt. He finally pulled away and looked her in the eyes.
"Alex...Do you really want to d....."
He stopped before he asked...knowing it was rude. But still he waited for a reply.
