Lyle nods in gracious acceptance, then says,
"I like it very much, sir. I would, however, like to make sure that neither Agent Stirge, Rylis, or your man Arvus would be affronted by such an appointment. I have found that working with resentment always detracts from the successes of an operation," Lyle looks quickly from one to the others.

"That said, if I am to lead our group, then I would like to confirm our aims. What should be our priority - rousing the Osokans against Drakkon, or taking out the shield generator?

"And yes, sir, I believe that some soldiers would certainly be an asset on a world where combat is the main medium of respect. Not too many. Three, perhaps - and obviously not uniformed."

"Watching the starport will do nothing to prevent the transit of illegal and hazardous materials," says Nidar. "It's their ground; they will use it well. Only a blockade can create true security. The Senators can be excepted, of course. These simple poltiical tricks will not wash with the Senators. We should be about action."

"I can't see the Osokans being stupid enough to put the Senators in danger," says Jarek. "There'd be no need for all this shilly-shallying if they were that dumb."

"They are but savages!" insists Lomax.

"But with a strong survival instinct under the control of someone who is clearly sensible enough not to so openly invite his own destruction."

"Well, generator is certainly less important than political situation. We can destroy generator through military means, but neutralizing the problem of Senators shall be more difficult" -Melkor answers Lyle.

"With respect, General, I think that such a barbaric people would not hesitate to make a grab for power if they believed they could succeed," Lyle says, "I am not suggesting Drakkon himself attack the Senators - he will have opponents so soon after a civil war. All that we would have to do is persuade some of the less clever of their number that killing the senators would force Drakkon out of power."

"So my group's main aim would be the uncovering of Osokan cells who are arrayed against Drakkon? That clears things up for me. Would there be any other aims for us, barring the generator?"

"And then what is to stop it becoming public knowledge that our forces incited that? The Osokans are not a people we can control the flow of information with, You will be exposed and then you will be executed, which is what happens to people that make such mistakes in the name of the Emperor. We CANNOT actively incite an attack on the Senate, it is lunacy. They will have to be 'neutralised' poltiically."

"Indeed Captain Jarek, according to my research, Osokans posess at least unsophisticated cunning, despite their limitations, and this Drakkon is certainly no fool. I don`t see why blockade is of such great importance, they are unlikely to receive any weapons that could threaten us, they have neither resources nor skill for it, and if Drakkon escapes he loses all credibility, he is a warrior leader. And remember we must achieve our goals in few days, so blockade won`t be that significant, the civil war lasted for 2 years and neither side received much outside help."

"What is to stop us killing the rebels after they attack the Senators? After all, they will have attacked senators. But, I defer to your wider political knowledge. In that case, I suggest that my team instead looks only for a way to take out the shield generator, when it is necessary, and the location of any anti-air emplacements for your guns."

"We don't know that," says Nidar. "We have no idea what outside contacts they may have for arms deals. Such a war cannot sustain itself without supplies. And if Drakkon escapes, I will not be held responsible if i was instructed not to stop anyone."

"I don`t think you should only focus on this matter. Maybe you could find more subtle ways to undermine negotiations, or at least find evidence of Drakkon`s crimes to present before the Senate? Or maybe it could be possible to organize a coup against Drakkon, or kidnap him?"

"Do not worry about my ability to be subtle, Commissar, I doubt you'd have brought me along if you didn't think I was up to the task." Rylis replied. "As for Agent Lyle being in charge, I have no problems with that...so long as he gives me freedom to use my own methods if necessary, especially when it comes to dealing with Drakkon."

"I shall take all responsibility myself, Commodore. I know how to speak with Emperor. We are likely to commence the blockade at some point, but I would prefer to find a good reason first. How much time do we need to raize Lanzar with the firepower of our Destroyers, as you proposed?"

"Certainly," Lyle says, "You are the bounty hunter, ma'am."

In answer to Esgabeth, he says, "So we are to search for evidence of war crimes? Perhaps you should ask the Commodore if encouraging a coup would be again against his advice. I, unfortunately, know little of political matters. It is a good idea, though, since a coup would make the entire planet unstable. We could persuade the senators that troops should be deployed to stop any crimes that would otherwise inevitably occur."

"Well, in case we get support from natives, obviously we will have to lessen the effects of naval assault and likely undertake an invasion of capital at least. But the main problem is not the inability to defeat military opposition, as Officers here convinced me, we can take tha capital in a day or two. It is a legitimate excuse to use armed force and distrupt the negotiations that we need."

"There is evidence that Drakkon is guilty of war crimes, yes?" Rylis asks. "If he refuses to cooperate with us, then that should be enough to call in the troops and take him by force - but we must be careful to not start the hostilities."

"Unfortunately, sir, I am not good with the legal system of the Senate. As Rylis says, apart from uncovering evidence of his crimes, all I can suggest is wait until you know the other senators wih him better. Then you will know the nature of their beliefs. If you can convince them to request troops or that they are in danger..." Lyle says,

"Perhaps we should discuss which other troops will be going in covertly. A commander would be helpful, as long as he knows he will be taking orders from myself. Also, who do you think should be my second-in-command for the mission? I don't like to take chances."

"I can do it within a day," says Nidar, "but the longer we delay, the less certain total victory is. They will have time to prepare, to run and to hide."

"There is nothing legitimate about encouraging a coup with the deliberate intent of destroying the Senatorial mission," says Jarek. "It is simply tantamount to attacking the mission ourselves, and if the Senate exposes it then we'll all be for the chop."

"That is not enough until negotiations fall, not according to the view of the Senate. It would be perfect if Osokans start the hostilities.

Anyway, I believe we can`t make a detailed plan until Lyle`s team gets to Lanzar and I communicate with Senators.

Commodore, would it be possible to make two basic military plans - a joint naval and ground assault according to ideas of General Coil and Captain Trebeis, and full naval strike as you suggested? Which one we will use will depend on the political situation."

"Very well," says Nidar, "but I still believe that delay will be harmful."

Just to remind people what I said before- no, there is no evidence against Drakkon.

Lyle agrees,
"Indeed, a detailed plan for the senators cannot be drawn up until you know their personalities, or until my team is on the ground. It would perhaps be best to concentrate on military options at the moment.

"Maybe those of us that are non-military should go an prepare for our landing on the planet, and our cover story."

(Melkor, I think t'would be good to attach a PC commander to the mission, as well as troops.)
