Shatter looked across at Cain with a smile on her face.
"Personal problems set me back from joining the others and I dont think I need to remind you that not everyone has Cyttorak to back them up Cain... we're not as tough as you."
Her tone was friendly, no hint of a joking manner as she seemed to be quite relaxed and calm.
Cain was surprised that she didn't seem bothered by his words like people usually are. She usually has something to say when he speaks up like that. Charles looks at him and gives him a look that says "stop it". Cain simply laughs and continues his speech.
"You're right, only I am blessed by the powers of Cyttorak. If you had it then you wouldn't have any personal problems at all. I heard you had a bit of a training sequence today. Feel any better finding your limits? What about strength? Let's go downstairs and see who is physically superior. I bet I can lift more than you little girl."
Shatter chuckled and shook her head slightly, glancing at the Professor as Cain spoke, then looking back to Cain as he asked her several questions.
"I'm more than happy to be flawed in comparison to yourself Cain, I actually think it's a horrible burden to carry such power that you hold... but it's your choice as to what you do, or don't do... but I won't compete with you... I know my physical limits and I won't risk my own health for the sake of your over-inflated ego."
She replied, in the same jovial and friendly tone. She'd rather go to hell than let jeers and 'crap-talkers' like Cain get to her.
Cain looks at her and doesn't feel like hearing anything she has to say now. He isn't going to be judged by some weakling. He leaves the room and goes back to sleep. Meanwhile Xavier begins to speak up.
"Well that went very well. Seems like you have some self-control Shatter. It takes a lot to ignore Cain when he gets like that and you seemed fine."
Shatter waited until Cain had left before chuckling for a little while, nodding and wiping her right eye of a forming 'happy' tear before answering.
"I can deal with Cain and 'his type'... it's not that difficult... I just choose to not let some of those kind of jeers and taunts get at me. He will never admit it, that much I know already but without Cyttorak he's like the rest of us... and because of his ego he'll never realise that until Cyttorak's 'protection' is no longer their as his "shield"... and as far as I'm concerned... it just takes me a little while to get over my emotions... like I said, I'm human and flawed like everyone else but I'm learning to reign in my emotions... that's the main reason why I don't personally think I'm ready because my powers so far have manifested at its peak when I'm in a hightened emotional state... then I loose control and people, weather they be innocent or otherwise... get hurt."
Charles laughs a little when he thinks about his brother without Cyttorak. He knows his secret that Cain doesn't tell anyone.
Thats good Shatter, let nothing get in your way. If you truly see a future with the X-Men then I have no doubts in my mind about what you will be able to achieve. Its good though that you admit to your emotions instead of choosing apathy. But speaking of Cain being without Cyttorak, may I ask you how old do you think he is?"
"Try 87. I know he doesn't look it but he is older than me. Without his "Shield" he is an old man. I think he may die if he ever truly lost the that power. For him to keep his power he must be a completly evil and destructive force. Sometimes I wonder if he is the way he is because of survival, or if he truly enjoys being evil now."
Shatter cocked an eyebrow in honest surprise then replied just as calmly as before.
"Wow... no offence intended but I mean this as a compliment... I thought you where the elder out of you two just simply based on maturity... in my eyes Cain's a scared and hurt young child trapped in an unstoppable force of a body. But I can understand where you're coming from. At first he may have found the power as a means of survival but as time has progressed he would have had to severly adjust... as you said to become the evil character he is now. It'd be almost impossible to stay 'innocent' in any way with Cyttorak clocking his every move through the years in my opinion..."
"A lot of people think the same thing because of my personality and his enchantment. I see what you are saying but truthfully I can't blame him for who he is. He feels cheated from life ever since we became brothers and well...he has failed in everything he has tried to do. Being the Juggernaut is his only means of success. I still believe he can be saved, which is why he is allowed to stay here at the moment. Excuse me for a minute I have to fill Erik in about the situation. We are going to need all the help we can get."
Xavier sends a message to Magneto and fills him in on the situation and Magneto is extremely angered. He wants to go himself and lay waste to the entire state but Nakoma eventually calms him down and convinces him to let him go instead.
~With a better understanding of her mission she nodded and made her way to find Tempestro. She didnt know if the kid had it in him to kill a human being new to the brotherhood but she was sure she would find out. When she came up to him she simply nodded.~ Magneto says that I got with you. To make sure you understand who you are representing here..... Lets go. I assume they will be waiting for us at the Mansion. If Xavier really wants our help he will be curtious enough to wait until we get there before he leaves in that over sized jet of theirs.
