Yeah, I don't think Lucas even thought about Vader redeeming himself after someone made up that it would be fun perhaps if Vader were actually Luke's father.
It was intentionally just a basic hero/villain story with nine episodes(!)
Lucas is just lucky about how SW turned out to be..
If you read his original scripts with dialogue, you'll realise that he is actually a very cheesy writer. No matter how interesting, just check out the original ROTJ ending and see for yourself.

Revenge of the jedi! 😆
The scripts are all pretty easily found. They can take a couple of nights to read through but they're pretty interesting and will give at least some insight to SW.
I for one think they should have actually done the first version.
Too bad Coruscant was too hard for them to make back then..

That was sweet, O'lord 😱
I wish they had made that version too, woulda kicked all kindsa ass, and made ep3 even better!!
Intresting. That script was very intresting.
One cool thing is this part.
"Luke looks at his father, then reaches out and Vader's lasersword leaps off the Dark Lord's belt and into the young Jedi's hand. Luke ignites the lasersword as the Emperor pulls a sword out of his sleeve and tosses it to Vader."
I just thought it was cool that GL had always wanted Palpatine's Lightsaber to be in his sleeve like it was in Eps III.
Very cool. But it is odd...thats for sure.
