Wow this issue was bad. The writing is ridiculous. Jean Grey? They're fighting over Jean freakin' Grey. They're meant to be professionals.
You've never been in a heated argument with a good friend / long time girl friend / family member and brought up something completely unrelated from the past that had no barring on the argument just to hurt the other person? Welcome to the human race, it's called writing three dimensional characters. Jean Grey has nothing to do with anything, they are just pissed off and trying to hurt one another. They would say anything that they know will push the others buttons, because that is the intent.

I'm sorry, but it's called crisis mode and getting your priorities straight. You keep your cool in a crisis you don't lose it. When I used to lifeguard I had no problem doing that. Most people are capable of it. These people do this on a daily basis, it shouldn't happen. And if I had a knife in my hand and got into a heated argument. I would definitely never use it.
The fight it forced and absurd. There is literally no reason for Cyclops to hang around the island anymore since Wolverine told the kids to GTFO it. The entire scene is retarded.

I don't want to diminish your time as a life guard but the two things aren't even remotely comparable. It's not the situation in and of it's self that is causing them to "lose their heads" but the method in which the other is intending to deal with it. They've both put their foot down and neither will compromise. You hear about stuff like this happening periodically in the military when people start clashing over orders they don't agree with and have decide they need to take a stand even if it involves court martial or dishonorable discharge. Maybe if there were two life guards, and there was a tsunami coming to the beach, and one life guard was saying "get ready kids, when the tsunami comes be ready to help save the drowning people!" and the other life guard was saying "Lets get out of here it's a ****ing tsunami, we will all die!" and the first life guard said "This is our beach! We aren't running from our own beach!", you might have something comparable.
Except for it's his home and he doesn't want to run away without a fight?

That's the thing though. There is no argument here. Wolverine took the option out of Cyclops hands by getting rid of the kids. There's nothing to argue about anymore. Wolverine has leverage at the moment. Leave now and berate Wolverine later for undermining your authority.
The X-Men teams are 7 minutes away. If the kids hold out that long maybe they would have had a chance. But since Wolverine got rid of the kids there's really no point in staying.
That last bit doesn't sound like Cyclops at all. How many times has Magneto rebuilt Asteroid M? Rebuild it again if that's the case. But staying to fight without the kids is not practical. It's suicide. And Cyclops would end up doing more for mutants by staying alive.

Gen Hoping standing on the front line was only part of the argument, and prior to them even showing up Cyclops was preparing to stand alone against the Sentinel. He made it pretty clear that he was making his stand on the Utopia because he felt that is where they had the best chance, that there was no where left to run and all they would be doing would be drawing out the inevitable. Perhaps a more menacing villain with a history more formidable then something like a Sentinel would have made this threat more clear, but the intent of the issue was clear that Cyclops was preparing for a suicide last stand. He wasn't going to run before Gen Hope showed up as back up, why would he leave because they were gone?

Well then stay and fight the machine not Wolverine. Also Wolverine states that he'd stay with Cyclops till the end just as long as the kids aren't there. Well the kids are gone. So why doesn't he just stay. Plus Danger is on the island. I'm sure she can slow it down as well.

Because Wolverine's threat to blow up the island is the only thing forcing the evac. If Wolverine relented, Scott would get the Cuckoos to order everyone back to the front lines, which is why Cyclops and Wolverine are fighting, Scott wants to get that detonator off of him so he can do things his way. Jeffries couldn't do anything to the Sentinel, don't seeing Danger being very effective.

All they need to do is stall till the X-Men arrive. The X-Men were 37 minutes away when the Sentinel was activated. When the Sentinel was in the water walking towards Utopia it was stated to be 20 minutes away. All they need to do is stall till the other teams arrive. So at worst 17 minutes.
The kids are gone..Wolverine and Cyclops are going to be fighting for 5 minutes while the Sentinel starts to wreck Utopia, achieving nothing in those 5 minutes.
Danger is a metamorph. She can do a lot more then Wolverine or Cyclops.
The other X-Men aren't far away at all (They both know this). In fact if you look at the preview art for the next issue you'll see they aren't. It's just so juvenile. Plus they both are being ridiculous. We're talking stabbing each other and burning off peoples faces. I honestly thought they'd be a logical reason for both of them to actual resort to maiming.

The entire foundation of the divide is that Cyclops believes Utopia is worth dying for. He was going to stand there on his own and sacrifice his life to protect it, and now Wolverine is threatening to blow it up. Cyclops is willing to risk his life and the future of the mutant race (Hope) to protect Utopia, and Wolverine isn't. Cyclops' thinks Utopia is a symbol and represents something worth dying for, Wolverine thinks Utopia is a bunch of rocks and while he is willing to risk his own life for it, he won't risk Hopes or the five lights. There isn't really an acceptable compromise in there.
I'm pretty sure the blast that stops the Sentinel form squashing them is Idie and Gen Hope returning to fight not the on route X-Men. Idie is going to die in the next issue which will be the impetus for the split. Wolverine will be right in that Gen Hope was just kids and if they fought there would be casualties, and Cyclops will be right in that them fighting would buy time for reinforcements to arrive. Wolverine doesn't think the lose of a child's live is worth it, Cyclops does.
If Jeffries couldn't do anything Danger is going to be shit out of luck. The Sentinel is essentially a more powerful Danger without a consciousness. I would go as far as to say she would be completely useless as it would just supersede everything she would attempt with its own abilities.
