I will say one thing about recent portrayals of Cyttorak that have bugged me, this isn't just AvX, is that he only cares about getting his name spread via destruction when it used to be he only cared about getting more followers and he didn't care how. His primary way of doing it was through fear and destruction but he didn't mind if you did it the other way either.

Agreed.

He has said to Strange that 'good' or 'evil' has no meaning to him and all he cares about is that his name is spread spectacularly.

She's also a jaguar goddess(which is what that jaguar bikini could possibly be in reference to) , and the Hulk#53 incarnation portrays her in the "Moon Goddess" aspect of hers(or at least that's what's mentioned in the interview with Parker) .

Also from Jeff Parker's commentary , its hinted that she(along with the rest of her brethren) is possibly not even a real Mayan deity , but merely a member of an advanced race of post-humans with a Clarke'sThirdLaw-esque sort of science/technology .

I knew i forgot one, the Jaguar reference.. the eater of men. I think the Jaguar connection is just her Totem/Spirit Animal. but, yeah, she also has animal claws from time to time in some of her depictions. The Jaguar is also a clan name or family crest which is associated with War, hence, the War Goddess aspect.

you asked me about what her head dress meant or what was it. In the comics depiction I cant tell you since in the comics it appears to be a generic lazy attempt to draw a Mayan type head dress.

Her head dress in her Mayan Depictions is usually a snake or snakes. which is all symbolic with life and rebirth, wisdom and connection to the earth and spirits.

In Native American Mythology the Snake is not a symbol of evil like it is in other religions.

as for the advance post human race thing that is an explanation for some of earth Gods like the Eternals and some being advance dimensional aliens as was once the Asgardian explanation. I dont mind if these gods end up being ancient humans who usurped the names of the real gods.. which Apocalypse once did himself and other lesser gods also did like Seth.

Storylines involving the Council Of Godheads often showcase godly races such as the Asgardians/Aesir as magical entities , that were formed/evolved from Earth's mystical energies(shaped by mankind's nascent religious beliefs) .
And as far as I remember , Itzamna was a member of the Council , which indicates that the Mayan Gods should be the counterparts to the Aesir and Olympians .
The Eternals , as far as I recall , never had one of their own as a member of the CoG .

Therefore either the Mayan Gods have been retconned , or these guys just aren't the real deal .

He's the only one who's turning out to be the sane one out of the five . Not that I care about character portrayals in this arc .

Cool scans.

Spider-Man is currently one of the few titles written by someone who actually actually can write a decent story and respects the past at the same time.

since u found her name, I am sure you looked her up yourself.

Her name is definetly Ixchel, it names all the Mayan Gods in Hulk #54

Cyclops has been crap since X-Men 500 and the start of X-Force.

Gillen did at least TRY to write him well, though.

Didn't the Mayan sent an Eternal for the first God Squad?

you mean Ajak?

He is an eternal who usurped the name of the Incan version of Quetzalcoatl.

IIRC , Ajak was never really a member of the Mayan Pantheon . Like the Olympian Eternals , he was basically an impostor of the traditional gods . Right ?

no, he is not part of the Incan, Mayan or Meshika Pantheon.

He simply took their name when the Native people confused him for their god.
