Tom, this has been a common complaint about AvX - at least on the forum I frequent - so can I ask why every single development regarding the Phoenix Force from Excalibur was ignored? That series gave the Phoenix backstory and even characterisation.The Phoenix has appeared in a myriad of stories over the years, several of them contradictory, almost all of them confusing. When we started working on AVX, we made a very conscious decision to deal with the Phoenix in as simple and as inviting a manner as possible, so that people who knew nothing about any of the history could get on board with what is, let's face it, a pretty wild concept. Axel, for example, kept using the analogy that the Phoenix is like a comet heading towards Earth--that's all you need to know. So all of that other stuff is still there, it just didn't have a bearing on the story we were telling, and not getting into the chapter-and-verse of it all was a deliberate decision to keep people like that guy a few questions back who was overwhelmed by HAWKEYE & MOCKINGBIRD #1 having their brains fall out right in the first issue.
