The depression thing could be cool if they run out of story fodder, but this back story has SO much more potential.

Former students, allies, enemies, competitors, and all different martial arts styles can be brought in as storyboards.

With a mimicking rat (which is stupid btw), the only back story could be if the parakeet in the next cage happened to step in mutagen too. One shot villain, Splinter vs Polly maybe.

Unless THAT Yoshi had a pet monkey, parakeet, rat, iguana, cat, dog, gerbil, ferret, pot-bellied pig, ... etc. which would be even more stupid,

I think they did some sort of hybridation in the IDW comic in which Splinter is both an ancestor of Yoshi reincarnated and his pet rat or something of sorts. The turtles were also ancient warrior brothers methinks.

Hyperion is currently the most durable/strongest character in comics. Not trying to derail the thread but I don't think there is a ft anywhere close to that.

Going by that showing, yes, he is. He held two universes back from colliding and then survived the destruction of both without a scratch.
