I'd guess that casting them decades into the future was an inadvertent action, secondary to the time gem shattering. I do not believe Cap meant to do this. We'll know for sure next issue, though.
That would be kind of lame if Hickman repeat's it.
Since supposedly the gems were shattered gone from that other time. And now it is shown that the time gem, Cap had it for this.
As then again repeat that cycle. Cap has it again another time but I guess it would not surprise me again. Fool them a second time and lets go for a third time.....LOL.

****ing insane showing.
Wow. I know I'm extremely late, but this is amazing. Was this set up as like a mini event? Or did it just kinda happen in the story? Kal being able to rip Doomsday! of all people in half is insane. I guess Doomsday isn't a legit threat anymore and got nerfed in the new 52, or you can argue that Kal is just that damn good. I have a new found respect for Superman. Which issue is this? I'm actually going to my local comic shop to purchase my first Superman book.

Its Superman Doomed 1, a oneshot.
I don't mind Superman beating Doomsday--it's the rippage-in-halfage that I have a huge problem with. Superman should not be able to do something like that to any version of DD worth a damn(he could have never hoped to do that to H/P or Wars DD, for example.)
That is why I think this version of DD was nerfed--relative to some of his pre-Flashpoint incarnations, at least.

Not to mention Morrison writing him as able to kill Superman which was again referenced in this issue.
Its just OWAW all over again IMO.

Can't see Diana slicing through any of the previous incarnations either and even if she did, this Doomsday was hellava damaged afterwards...laying on the ground coughing up blue mucous.
Originally posted by emporerpantsI'm not debating the substantial lip-service this iteration of DD was given. However, he was certainly no H/P Doomsday... Not even close. That's really all I'm saying.
It's a valid argument, but I don't agree. I think it was meant to imply what a desperate, balls to wall, non-holding back Supes is capable of, especially since they hyped Doomsday so much. Also, making an all-out Supes that powerful is pretty in-line with Pak's MO isn't it?
So yeah, I think it is quite logical to assume that 'Doomed' DD was nerfed relative to, say, 'H/P' DD. Don't get me wrong, though: 'Doomed' DD was definitely a top-tier character.
On one hand I see what you are saying and I have always said that I don't think the Nu52 version or Supes and Doomsday are at the power levels of the Pre-boot versions. On the other hand, this showing and the descriptions that have taken place have started to change my mind. But, that's Pak for you.

And this DD was above top tiers.
