This is why respect threads should have good showings and bad, so that people have an idea of the characters limits. I mean once the respect thread creator shows all of the good points, they should add a limitations portion, or we begin thinking that our favorites are invincible, when we know that they aren't. Well I'm not one to spam up this thread with my opinions, so that's all for me. Just wanted to put that out there.

Just thought I would reply to this (I know you said this was your last opinion on this matter).

When I make my respect threads it would feel disingenuous to me if I was to pick every fight where Morlun, Exodus, Nimrod, H'el, Vulcan or Hourman won. While skipping all the times he lost.

Gives the illusion like you said that your favourite character is invincible.

You know this is comics, right? That these sorts of inconsistencies continue to be pointed out as though they're boggling is itself boggling to me.

Yeah, I'm always confused by this reaction too. But I guess people just like to complain.

Hence why I don't debate much anymore. The inconsistencies are ridiculously and really jusy becomes a pissing match over which scans should be used and which shouldn't. I try to go by averages, but majority are all about those ultra high showings. Story be damned. I want feats!!!

In my old respect threads I included their wins and loses. Some extremely low showings which completly contradict everything else I didn't include though

There are some that call them "capability" threads, to create a less biased picture from the start.

I've always felt that owning up to a character's vulnerabilities, weaknesses, and shortcomings was part of being a fan. I love Spider-Man because of his flaws and how he deals with them, not because of his feats. With that mentality, it's a lot easier to concede defeat in threads, or laugh along with the bad showings instead of railing against Marvel/DC.

As others have been in the past. Don't be so quick to throw an entire fandom under the bus. We are - all of us - a subgroup of a subgroup of fans, and not representative of any majority.

Yeah I mean (not to go off on a tangent) in particular with a character like Sentry Enzeru made a big deal of speaking about Sentry's Agoraphobia. Which funnily enough was based on my experiences with the illness and obviously mixing that with Sentry's way of dealing with it.

I think you're 100% right.

Yes, specially Death Head and He-man fanboys 131

Personally as a fan, I don't much care about wins or losses of a character. It's a fictional medium and the writers would whatever they want to make a story.

WTF

What? You think I read the comics for arguing on a message board?

I'm just speaking the truth they love to see lifting feats etc and have every feat quantified. It's what they live for.

Alright guys. Let's steer in back on topic before someone who gives a sh*t comes in and says the same.

Marvel's dialogue has seemed to get worse and worse since about 2003. "By the fiery crotch of Surtur". Seriously?

Well they sure are trolling tf out of us loyal fans. Whenever i say it can't get worse, it does

I think bendis is partly responsible for that. I see that weird "hip" writing a lot now. Comic characters are starting to sound like stoners now.

This, however i do care about the story itself. Fights should be grandiose and intriguing but should never carry a story. Thor can lose every fight as long as the plot is compelling. Feats are for the plebs

This is why Carver and Abhi are the dumbest muthaphuckas around.
They carry a list of high-end contextless feats in their photobucket and dont seem to understand that characters need losses and low points to be interesting.

Not surprising though, when you consider that their favourites are the popularity-sluts of DC and Marvel :3
