I'm saying that as dark as it gets, it should still have fantastical elements to it. You can write the darkest Batman story in the world full of rape, murder and all sorts of horrible things, but at the end of the day it's still a guy in a bat costume fighting a deranged clown, a man with half his face burned off, and a steroid junkie from South America.
be as dark/edgy/****ed up as you want. Just still keep it a Batman story.
