At best, it's cultural insensitivity. "Thor" doesn't sound like a real name to Americans, so it's easy to dismiss it. Most characters' superhero names are titles - Superman, Batman, Iron Man, Captain America - all titles. Thor is not. Thor is a name, even if it isn't an Anglican one.Would you think it was stupid if someone became the next John Constantine? Of course you would, because John Constantine is someone's name - and its a name that you immediately identify being as such. If someone was the next "John", that would be stupid, right? Right??
For me its not about culturally sensitivity or anything, it's just ****ing retarded.
Joe lost his sword so the next person to pick up his sword is now Joe.
Not a title, not a rank. Just his name. Just a regular ****en first name.

The cultural insensitivity is only because it would never happen if Thor was named "Joe". But he's named Thor, and it's ok to treat it like it's not a name because it's not 'murican.
Yes...mildly racist against Nordic people...for reasons already mentioned.

Racist? Lol... That shiet ain't racist. For one Thor is not a regular name. It's closer to a title Imo considering it was the representative name of a major deity for what, hundreds maybe thousands of years??U guys are over thinking this.

Sure it is. Thor is absolutely a name. Just because you don't see many Americans named Thor doesn't mean it's not a name. It's still a name used in Scandanavian countries. Look no further than the mountain from GoT (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haf%C3%BE%C3%B3r_J%C3%BAl%C3%ADus_Bj%C3%B6rnsson)
Anyways... Aaron, keep em coming. I'm on board for the long haul.

I'm not saying it's not a name normally used. Of course it can be used by regular folks. But in this particular instance, there is an emphasis on the other worldly connotation as in major ancient sky god. And it's in a comic book.
Point is Thor is his name - whether he's a God or not. If you want to give him a title, make it "Thunderer" or something.
When Thor became King Thor he didn't take the "title" Odin. He was just Thor Odinson, All-Father (that last one is a title).

Not in America. I've met more than one Thor here though, and they've all surprisingly been male. 🤔
You're free to your opinion of course, if you enjoy the comics, good on you because that is the point of then after all.
But its not a title, at least its not supposed to be. Thor wasn't born "Odinson", alone. He was Thor Odinson, first name and family name.
He didn't get the name Thor after lifting the hammer, otherwise yes, it'd be for all intentions and purposes a title.
This really isn't any different than if Hera replaced Zeus, and made everyone call her Zeus. Zeus is even more uncommon than Thor I'd say, yet everyone should agree its not intended to be for women.
I would equally turned off by this if a guy took Wonder Woman's position and demanded he be called Diana while Wondy had to go only by her family name.

I know a dozen guys named Tor.
