Educate me Lob. What other titles are "pandering"? You act like comic writers just began putting socio-politico commentary in comics in 2017.If every elite mainstream character in any house is a white straight male who exactly is the group thats getting pandered to. Goddamn noobs.
1.America- All of her depictions under the ABYSMAL Gabby Rivera(Fake Latina name) are in direct contrast to her previous portrayals and NONE of it is indicative of growth
2.Ms. Marvel- Find a page of this series outside of the advertising that isn't pandering.
3. Captain Marvel- They took a great character in Carol that had finally garnered some momentum and turned her into some generic "Butch" fem who grows more masculine in appearance in each comic.
4.Thor- Jane Thor has her moments it is the outrageous miscasting and depowering of Odin and Thor that is off putting. The ruler of Asgard that put Sif in charge and granted his son Mjolnir is now a misogynist, windbag, who is unworthy of the hammer HE created and is demeaned by his Wife. Thor losing the hammer should have been the mark of high adventure and instead its been mostly marked by his doubt and mediocre performances.
Wait the treatment of Odin and Thor brings pain to their followers.
I TAKE EVERYTHING BACK ABOUT NUMBER 4!!! EXCELSIOR MARVEL. 👆
Then there all the other instances where female characters show up and monologue to the readers in a condescending manner while their male counterparts suddenly lost all their abilities and reasoning around them.
As for "socio-political" commentary it has existed since the Golden Age and you know what they called it then...PROPAGANDA. In its more nuanced form it played right into the established sensibilities of characters and provided opportunities for authentic growth. GREEN LANTERN/GREEN ARROW, Stern's CAPTAIN AMERICA, SQUADRON SUPREME, THE AUTHORITY, STORMWATCH and a myriad of others.
What Marvel is producing currently is TRASH and the sales prove it to be so.
As far as me being a "Noob" I've forgotten more about comic books and the history of the medium than you will ever know.
