i think the issue with all mediums is that there is a huge market now and the demand to rush product, whilst appealing to a new culture. its not like the golden age wasnt ripe with trash

DC has the edge, because there is nothing Marvel has that can counter all it's imprints. Metal, Young Animal, Hannah Barbera, Wildstorm, Vertigo, etc...

They're also getting a line for kids, Black Label (With Frank Miller) and Sandman (Neil Gaiman).
