He was only able to overtake Hal and Batman when they were distracted by cheap shots/other people. That never happened to Superman. J'onn and Arthur being properly subdued happens entirely off-panel, so we have no measuring stick of the actual time/battle. J'onn in particular has been having a protracted battle with Despero long before that scan you posted. Post the whole sequence in order. It's clear as day that Superman was saved by others, not his own will.

Jordan was on ground sweating after one blast and immediately overcome. J'onn and Arthur were immediately enslaved after one blast.
Let me see who is saving Superman here. Despero is trying to control Superman and Superman is resisting him straight up.

Zatanna literally saves him from that blast in the next panel. You can see her saying Despero's name. Can you prove that J'onn and Arthur were overcome after one blast? Why only post the one scan again? Why are you nervous to show the whole scene?

Being saved meant he was in danger, he wasn't and it was never specified.

All I was saying was that I felt Superman survived far longer than he should have, interruptions or not.
That Despero was able to overcome J'onn and Arthur at all makes it worse, for me.
And my point about Johns still stands, imo. He's had more than one instance of bending people's powers to make the story work.
