Because that’s been Superman thing since post crisis. I don’t see how hard such an easy concept is to understand.
Kingdom Come keeping true to Superman showed us that aspect of Clark. Even after Lois and many people died in the Daily Planet bomb attack, Clark still refused to kill because it went against his core.
