Most of the cosplayers at the cons I've been too are lame weebos dressed as the current anime flavour of the week, or steam punk kids. Good comic character cosplays are few and far between, up here in Canada at least.
SDCC is an entirely different story. I mean even the conventions here in Denver have some pretty damned impressive guys walking around in movie quality costumes and incredible comic designed suits and whatnot but SDCC is on another level.
I mean, yeah for every good cosplayer there's about a dozen overweight, balding women dressed like an anime character (lol) but the guys and gals that go to thosse cons from around the country/world are not ****in around.
I saw a guy dressed up as bumblebee it was without a doubt incredible.
