Man, you're so easy to manipulate! Just what I needed to hear. Now, on a COMPLETELY unrelated note...
Parmaniac! Guess what?! Remember that recent x-men issue where Spider-man appeared? Well, in that issue he fought Gambit, Storm and most importantly Wolverine!! ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!! But that's not the best part! They were all AMPED!!! Had superhuman strength, durability and speed! And like that's not GOOD enough! He didnt have a SINGLE scratch after the fight! Meaning he dodged them all SIMULTANEOUSLY! But that's not ALL! He fought them all in sewers with barely any place to maneuver! And they STILL COULDN'T EVEN SCRATCH HIM!!! But EVEN THAT is not the best part!!! When he appeared to help Emma they didnt show up! At ALL! They didnt show up utill the very END of the issue! And since we use off-panel stuff now its safe to say they didnt show up because he BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF ALL THREE OF THEM!!! AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!!! And now to hammer the last nail into Stilt's coffin, that fight took place after the Spider-slayer story! Which means.. wait for it... waaaaaaaaiiiiit foooor iiiiit! HE HAD NO SPIDER SENSE!!! BAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wheeeeeew.... Man, that was so good I need a smoke..
Fights are no longer written like they were in the past, that is with caption boxes describing every action and even thoughts of both combatants. It's not uncommon in modern books at all that some part of the fight takes place off-panel while the on-panel time is given to other characters in order to advance with the plot. In short, writers don't focus on fights as much as they used to. I'm sure you don't need me citing examples.
Wolverine's performance against Carnage was very good considering his lack of adamantium and loss of one set of claws pretty much on the beginning of the fight. Logan tackles him, maybe rips through some tendrils, gets his claws eaten, then we see them fighting in the background on at least two occasions... finally Cletus gets blindsided and Bobby freezes him.
It's much different from other off-panel battles ermm Again: Logan attacks, Cletus appears to get the advantage, but in fact Logan holds his own and has no visible wounds at the end. Enough panels to come to conclusion that it wasn't a stomp in anyone's favor, but a tough fight. You know better than most that symbiotes are no joke. Carnage was massacring Matt, Veranke and even Cage (though he couldn't break his skin) till Sentry came to rescue. Are we gonna now dismiss that showing because (iirc) some of that fight took place off-panel? Don't think so.
Now about X-Men v3... aside from it happening mostly off-panel, Bachalo's awful art that does not allow the readers to see what the f*** is actually happening and chaotic writing, I gotta say it was a great showing actually. Not just the X-Men turned into lizardmen were on Parker's ass, but also that boy that Dark Beast considered special and transformed into a Hulk-like lizardman.
But it is important to note they did not retain their intelligence. That's what made them so ineffective. Look at Lars... he wasn't dumbed like the rest and thus embarassed Wolverine in a single page.
It's safe to say reptile X-Men gave Pete a run for his money though, seeing as he was exhausted when he reached Connors.
