The Strength Force Theory

Right, well, i decided to make this thread while posting in the cable vs. GL thread.

Here's what i mean by the strengthforce:

My theory is this:

In comics, when super powered people (superstrength) fight, it's assumed that they're in some sort of way grounded to the environment they're in. Imagine an invisible force that binds them to the ground they're on, kind of like gravity. But this force isn't equal with all, and instead of mass like gravity, it is denoted by the person's strength. Yes, i know it sounds strange, but it's obvious that it makes sense. A 100 tonner would more likely send a 10 tonner flying than the other way around by my theory. And that's the way it's portrayed in comics most often.

Agree with me?

So........agree with my theory of the strength force being constantly used in comics or not? 🙂

Maybe they have proper footing? Since they have their legs on the ground, and their legs have degree of super strength too?

And that would most likely seem to apply on most people...except some *coughwolverinecough*.

No ammount of footing would keep a 500 lbs character from being tossed miles away by a 100 ton punch, unless their feet are basically INSIDE the earth. And even then, it would rip out the chunk of ground and they'd still be thrown.

Think about it this way.

A 100 ton on the dot character compared to a 500 lbs opponent has a ratio of 444.4444444444444444444444 etc. to 1.

Now let's say you, Darkcrawler can benchpress 200 lbs.

Therefore, the comparison would be like this:

When a 100 tonner hits an opponent that weighs around 500 lbs, it would be like you, Darkcrawler hitting someone that weighs 200 grams.
No matter what kind of muscles or footing the person that weighs 200 grams (yes, quite impossible but bear with me) has, you'll throw them quite a distance no?

Therefore the "has footing" thing doesn't work and my theory still holds some water 😄

I voted "yes it makes sense" because i have to take care of my self-esteem 😛

What happened then should happen whenever two people with such an incredible difference ( 444/1) between strength and weight fight.
The fact that it was in water has nothing to do with it, because as i proved, footing wouldn't matter when the numbers are that high 🙂

I tell ya one thing those pictures make me realize: how many of the 'ol time artists had lousy knowledge of anatomy in the arms and legs.

I can appreciate what you're trying to explain. It's what I always thought of as the Leverage Factor: Eg - if the Hulk weighs 1000 pounds, how the hell does he drag down a 100-ton object? Mostly this has been something comic writers/artists have ignored...so the strengthforce theory seems as good as any to me.

Of course, it wouldnt have to apply to someone like Superman. He could use "flying force" to anchor himself into position.

But that;s exactly it. With such heavy hitters, leverage doesn't play any role unless it's some seriously sickingly powerful leverage (which i've never seen).

As for Supes, yeah, i can understand what you're saying. When i said "the environment" the strength force interracts with, air, water and such were included. Not just the ground. ✅

Option 4 ; Writers + physics = bad comics ! I.e. Spiderman should be able to send Hulk flying, but that would look lame !!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 Its more like the Durability Force, which is usually linked to strength ! 🙂

I agree wholeheartedly. Not only does there appear to be some force anchoring the characters to the ground, but also there appears to be some force that prevents the ground from deforming during the fight (if you assume that the characters do in fact brace themselves against the ground). While there are exceptions to be sure, the vast majority of writers/artists seem to ignore this abomination of basic physics and just accept it as a convention in this particular medium.
