Issue #21:

The little boy that saved Spawn a while ago is the last (or one of the last few) survivor of Rhyll. He?s invited to join the Viking crew by their king, Harald (this might be the legendary King Harald Blue-Tooth, but seeing as how he dies later on, I doubt it 😉 )

Issue #22:

When Spawn wakes up he finds a big green goo hanging from a tree. Inside of it, a Hellspawn in becoming. Thing is, when the druids tore the necroplasm from his body, Malebolgia thought he was killed. So he made a new Hellspawn and wanted to send it to Earth. However, there can?t be two hellspawn on Earth at the same time, so this one is in a state of ?containment? until Iain Covenant actually does die.

Meanwhile, Gareth the druid gathers the remains of the Iceni warrior and burns them.

The men had been sent by Gaston Guy, the bishop. They came to get the necroplasm and they did. They take it, and leave Gareth to bleed to death.

Issue #24:

Gareth is dying. But he asks not to be taken by death just yet. He needs to make sure the necroplasm stays safe. And so, the old gods agree.

Raven (the girl) appeared in the previous issue. She ran away from her home, looking for adventure, afraid her father would force her to get married instead of letting her fight.

The Vikings that took in the little boy are hunting for a gang of other Vikings that had abandoned their cause. They happen to be the ones that beat Spawn up a few issues back. The little boy revels in the slaughter.

Months pass by. Dumas grows weaker. Spawn grows more knowledgeable. Gareth finally wakes up (longass sleep). The small boy living with the Vikings gets more and more savage. In the end, Dumas dies and Spawn leaves his house.

Issue #25:

The men that had attacked Gareth reach their home. Plague had infested those lands. The Bishop Gui was also infected. The necroplasm was the last hope.

Issue #28:

This is the last issue in this series. It marks the end of Iain Covenant, the dark ages hellspawn.

After the ordeal is done, Spawn and Cogliostro bury the cage with the necroplasm in the middle of a druidic circle. Then, they part ways.

This was an awesome series. The setting, the artwork, the characters, the stories, everything in it was great. Another important factor was the fact that in about half of the comics, Spawn loses his powers and is just a ?strong? character. Despite the constant torment he?s put through, he keeps prevailing and passing every obstacle.

This is the first Spawn story I read that actually ended happily 😂

I loved this series, and I sincerely suggest you guys read if not the whole series, at least what I posted here.

HELLSPAWN

Hellspawn is a 16 issues series, that features Al Simmons. Most of the action takes place during the Second Age, after Al has killed Malebolgia and the throne of Hell is unoccupied.
However, this project was an ?on-the-side? project.
I?ve read a few interviews and open letters that Todd McFarlane has answered to, in which he described Hellspawn as a sort of ?alternate? sequence of actions and such. The characters are all the same, with the same background, with everything the exact same way up until the time when Hellspawn #1 starts.
During the series, the same characters are used and such, but the idea is that what happens in Hellspawn doesn?t necessarily happen in the ongoing Spawn series. For instance, in Hellspawn 14, Spawn accepts the Throne of Hell and changes the entire planet, turning it into Hell.
That never happened in the ongoing series.

The art is very difficult to comprehend, especially at the beginning. It?s made by Ashley Wood up until issue 10 when he starts to work with Ben Templesmith and form issue 11 to the end, Ben Templesmith takes over. Both Wood and Templesmith are awesome artists, especially Wood, and the art is incredibly abstract. The main idea was to create a comic book like no other (at the time).

The first ummm?..6 issues I believe were written by Brian Michael Bendis so??they?re not as hot as they could?ve been. For the rest of the series, Steve Niles was the writer together with Todd McFarlane and they did an ok job all in all.

Anyway, I won?t be posting as many scans from this as from the other series, but rather focusing on synopses and such in order to tell what?s going on. This?ll be more of a ?feat? section in terms of scans, than of ?features?. Don?t worry though, I?ll still be telling what?s going on in the comic book 😉

Issue #1:

In this first issue, we see the Clown?s ?new look? (it?s only used in this series). The clown uses his powers to manipulate a crapload of people into either killing themselves or just torturing them.
Meanwhile, a hobo named Fastbender is trying to convince another one named Hertz about how Genghis Khan was the spirit of a warrior. And how his spirit keeps being reincarnated in Hellspawn.

Spawn finds the Clown and confronts him about what he?s doing.

Issue #2:

Credit must be given where it is due. And Bendis deserves it for one simple thing. In a few issues, he inserted ?chat-room like? comments into the pictures. Doing that made the whole setting that much more real. Like if Spawn really existed, there would be millions of people obsessed with him, and chatrooms, etc. etc.

She kept insisting how he?s a racist, and he uses foul language and such, and he kept insisting how nice and good he is. This page shows what happens when the cameras are off. (I love the last panel, after he tells her that and she kicks his @ss ?from the hospital? 😂 )
