That was hardly a joke. Though someone called me Spock for something similar just yesterday. Very odd.

Yeah thats them, they never actually physically died, so can't really be called Zombies. But if you look at it like RJ then if they have a soul then they would be dead, just not physically.

I think I don't quite understand RJ's view yet. can you elaborate?

It was the idea of "which part of a person decides whether they're dead", e.g either the body, the mind or the soul. If humans do have souls, then the Infected peoples ones probably are dead. Meaning in that sense, they are Zombies.

what brought on this philosophically conversation about zombies again

Even if I would believe in souls, which is fundamental for some forms of Zombies, I would argue that the "Zombies" of 28 Days Later still have their soul as it is a chemical imbalance that makes them kill and such, they aren't really dead by any definition of the word I know.

I suppose there could be Zombies that are not dead physically, but soulless. I can't think of any instance in fiction though.

Sarah said KMC is dead. You said it is a Zombie. TRH said Zombies are dead. I threw in my 2 cents and here we are.

They have appeared a few times in fiction, but I can't think of an example. They're usually some sort of slave or follower of someone, or something along those lines. They perhaps could be counted as Zombies.

And also, the 28 Days Later 'Zombies' aren't braindead either, they're just Infected with the disease which makes them want to eat people. But how can they tell who is Infected or not, why wouldn't they end up attacking each other?

Yeah, I guess. Though I also can't think of an example.

I am not sure how 28 Days Later deals with it. The logical thing would be for them to attack each other.

Most Zombie films go with the 'Dawn of the Dead' idea, where the zombies go towards human heat, and since they are dead they don't even realise other Zombies are around. That pretty much makes them dead in body and soul. But of course 28 Days couldn't follow that idea since they are alive, so the whole 'human heat' thing doesn't apply.

interesting theory

Well, you could go by all sorts of things. Smell especially comes to mind.

That's probably the most logical idea.
