In the words of a friend, "now two birds (mice for you) will die today. One in the bird you failed to rescue; the other the hawk must replace for its meal."
I don't mean to be critical. This is the exact same situation I was in (so I can empathize). I spent the entire day a little depressed. More at my own failings then entirely in the perishing of the bird. Just goes to show you, somethings should just be left alone.

well my cat doesn`t eat it, she just plays with it (she thinks everything is toys) that doesn`t really apply here.
i know its nature and all and that it happends all the time but if she brings it to my backyard and I can hear the terrified baby mouse squiking for help, I really can`t just sit there and do nothing ermm it goes against my nature, even if its better left alone 😬
Well in that case keep a snake 😐
But I understand. Hard situation. The best thing I'd do if I were in your situation, and my cat brought home baby mice on a regular occurrence, would be to learn nursing and medical aid. Other than that, teach the cat some etiquette (don't play with food), eradicate all the mice within the tristate area (can't be too safe) or kill the cat.
Personally, I'd take the latter as I'm allergic to them, but I am confident the mice will stage a successful abduction, "rehabilitate" your cat in the ways of rodent appreciation (and defense against the dark hawks), and voila; mouse sentinel a la mode...

And you don`t kill an animal you love just.
It is still nature, nothing needs to be "done" about it petpet

I fail to see the relation between animal cruelty and dietary needs.
How would you counter putting down sick pets?
Are you referring to the death of an animal through human intervention still being natural? I'm confused about your last statement.

There is nothing to counter. we aren`t discussing sick pets, we were talking about putting down a perfectly healthy animal because it did one thing wrong. where i say again i would not put down an animal i love for doing one thing wrong. Off course the situation is different if the animal is sick, i myself had to put my old pet to sleep because its kidneys were failing and it was suffering.
I was refering to my cat catching a mouse.
I tried saving an animal in pain, i did my very best and i wasn`t alone in doing so. unfortunately the animal died and that makes me sad. I have a right to that. Thats all that needs to be said about it.

its simple, I can`t stand the the fact that an animal is in pain or dying, so ergo i could never give a live animal to another animal for food. There is nothing to counter. we aren`t discussing sick pets, we were talking about putting down a perfectly healthy animal because it did one thing wrong. where i say again i would not put down an animal i love for doing one thing wrong. Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not picking a fight. Some innocent banter as this forum is a little too quiet for me. I will go on ahead and say I'm sorry if this is not a conversable topic. I did not mean to pry.
Also, I was kidding about killing the cat. There is no html text that accurately conveys facetiousness. It stands beyond reason to counter any mistake with death, especially an animal that isn't fully aware of its actions to begin with and acts entirely out of instinct.
Agreed, but if nothing was to be done, why did you do? Rhetorical.
I respect the mentality. Neither unnecessary attachment, superfluous description nor dwelling in the past.

No its alright i don`t mind talking about it, I can sometimes react quite strongly while talking about a subject, but i mean no harm by it honestly. sorry if you took it that way.
alright, i should have guessed you were kidding about that, its been a strange day so i will blame that for it.
Well because even if nothing is to be done and even if chances are slim, I hoped maybe, just maybe it would make it, it would live.
