Catholicism is a particular denomination and/or sect of Christianity.
Protestantism is a particular denomination and/or sect of Christianity.

Not really sure which denomination and/or sect your referring to about the Saints, most Christians believe in saints, that is they are very special holy people, the difference is that most don't worship them - which was one of the arguments against Catholicism with the worship of relics, as it was seen as worshiping idols as opposed to God. So while those who disliked the practice recognised Saints, they believed it wrong to prey to them as one would God.
Which was all big back in the reformation and so on.
Which thread did I participate on a discussion on this? If I find it I will post it.
Catholic means Universal, Catholics take that to mean the Universal Church of Christ. Christian is merely a person that believes in Christ as the Messiah. To a Catholic, they are Christian, but by their beliefs all "true" Christians fall under the blanket label Catholic. To use the term Christian is considered a slight due to the majority of people claiming to be Christian are followers of men who disagreed with the Catholic church.
