What is all of this stuff about Centers and being dumb... its like you two are little. I thought this thread was for Dwayne Wade VS. Vince Carter. But i guess i was wrongAnd by the way your both ignorant, Shaq is the only true dominant center left in the NBA, everyone knows that. Grow up
Once you get the hang of these "who's better" threads, you'll find out that they tend to get off topic often. they're basically extra NBA discussion threads. C'mon gimme a break, you don't seriously think this whole thread has solely been about Vince vs. Dwyane, right?
and about being dumb, i was defending myself. i was accusing him of being dumb, he was accusing me. it may sound childish, but i bet you would have reacted the same way had you been in my position.

Well if you had actually read the thread you would have found out how it became a debate about dominant centers.

Damn Rec, u give me props in one thread and we agree, and in another we are bitter rivals.. which is it gonna be, rivals or friends?
Well, in this thread I was pretty pissed at how this argument about dominant centers was going about, but you know what? They're no real friends or enemies on the internet. I mean one guy could agree with what you said and be your friend, while another may disagree and be your biggest rival, which doesn't make much sense, does it? We were having a heated discussion, but I'm a guy who doesn't take a few disagreements onto another discussion. You took the effort to put all those names on the other thread, and it deserved a compliment. Lord and I had like a war before, and we got over it. Same will probably go for others.
Just a note, but most arguments are based on differing views of definitions. That seems to be the case here as well. You guys are both right depending on what you guys believe to be a dominant C.
This is how it looks from my perspective:
Rec is arguing dominant by comparison of today's players while BloodyHell is arguing dominant as all players in history compared.
Rec is right that Ben Wallace is dominant over todays centers. Part of the reason is that today's centers aren't so good as they have been in the past.
With that said, BloodyHell is also right, but when comparing with the historically dominant centers. If Big Ben was thrown into a category featuring Shaq, Hakeem, etc in their primes, then he would not be dominant.
I hope this helps.

In the past the Center played an integral part in the game. This is true as recent as 5 years ago. Since then it has become a guards/forwards game.... Notice: Tim Duncan, Lebron James, Steve Nash, Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, Paul Pierce, Dwayne Wade, Amare Stoudemire, Ray Allen, Chauncey Billups, Tracy Mcgrady, etc...
Bonus: If u can name 10 starting NBA centers, without looking, I'll give u a cookie
If it keeps going like this, the Center position will be outdated by 2015. You'll start seeing a point guard, shooting guard, 2 small Forwards and a Poward Forward in most teams' starting lineups. But then again, by that time positions may be irrevelant as we see players as big as 6'9 to 7' playing like a guard nowadays.. Dirk, KG, Marvin Williams, Rashard Lewis, and more.
Either way.. the NBA has become a small mans game, a quick game, slashing game.. not much back-to-the basket or post game to be heard of.

True, centers aren't the most integral part of a team these days. But as far as centers do go, Ben Wallace can be viewed as dominant under Rec's perspective of what makes a dominant center.
Myth, you're on the right track of what I meant. I meant to say that guys like Shaq come only so often. Rarely in NBA history did we see a center get as much attention as Shaq in his prime. But what I mean is that a center doesn't have to be "Shaq-like" to be dominant. Good example, Ben Wallace. His offensive abilities are abysmal, but yet his presence is felt through his crashing of the boards, blocking shots, even getting steals (he's very quick for his size), and his overall defense. And the fact is, the center's primary job is to fill the middle, get rebounds, play defense, and do all the intangible things on the court that may not appear on the boxscore. Of course many supreme centers all should have an good offensive repetoire, but in Ben's case, especially after exceling brilliantly in Detroit and giving Detroit their identity, I consider him as a dominant center.
