As I pointed out, though, that kind of hate generally serves as a reaction to love. For that amount of hate to exist, there has to be a similar amount of love somewhere else.

Do you not agree that hate is usually a reaction to love?Almost without exception, people love. Hate is a harder emotion to come by.
Not always, I think there's different degrees of hate, for example people who are rude ****s to waiters aren't acting in reaction to love.

That's hardly hatred though. If you're going include that as hate, then love is going to be ubiquitous.
There can be irrational or random hatred, obviously.

Love is all around. I feel it in my fingers. I feel it in my toes. I feel it in my penis as my girlfriend blows.
That wouldn't happen to be a reference to 'Love Actually'...would it?

Love that movie!
Yes, Captain. It would.
It also happens to be the ethos I live and die by. I've died - and gone to heaven - countless times, but have I ever really lived? Why, yes! I have.
In regards to the love/hate shown to waiters; I was a waiter during my university years. The love I felt was a good tip, and the hate I cursed was a guest who changed their mind a million times. It's OK to complain if you receive bad service, but indecision is the bane of all wait staff...There are other people to serve, you know? No, I guess you don't...
Sometimes I feel that hate can be equated to selfishness. If someone is so concerned with their own well-being - at the sacrifice of other's - then I believe it is a form of repugnance towards humanity. A trite example of this is the person who believes they are the only one who wants to return home during the evening rush-hour. They push, shove, drive dangerously, and show a general disregard to others in the belief that their worth is the greatest. That 'hateful' behavior is then reciprocated in the people who bear witness to it...and so the wheel turns. It may seem rather ideologically naive, but a little empathy goes a long way.
