My point and the argument no-one has yet countered: American Idol doesn't have anything or anyone talented attached to it. You don't find talent on a "make me famous" TV show, as VVD said, you find it in a record store and as I said, you find it by seeking it out.
Nobody is wrong for watching these shows, but if you do, then admit what they are. Don't be so self-righteous as to try and justify the show just because you are ashamed of watching it.
People who watch these shows and believe they are witnessing talent, believe so because they know no better. This was proven when Raven said that she believed most music today was poor because it was all about image, not like the old days. We've since discovered that she makes zero attempt to seek out music and lives within her own limited knowledge while making the judgement calls.
American Idol has nothing to do with or is in no way affiliated/connected with, musical talent.

Main reasons I'm not a great singer and I certainly wouldn't say I have much talent there....I have very little range. Not to mention that I just sound...odd...while singing, most of the time.
Pitch I can nail dead on....made playing violin very easy for me. Never out of tune.

For example, Dr Graffin here, as you can see, has stunning credentials. He could have made it in the business world as a rich man, easily. But he chose punk rock. Why? Not because he wanted money. He could have had that without music. No, he formed Bad Religion becuase he had genuine beefs with the world and wanted to express them through music. He's not in it for money. He could have made much more money if he had chosen a normal profession.
Funny thing, there are people who play music becuase it is a passion, not a business. You seem incapable of realizing this.

The circumstance in which the money was earned would ruin it for me. I'd rather give out of my own pocket with money I earned fairly and honestly. It's nothing to do with ego.

They're measurable areas.
EG: There are 4 octave ranges, this is basically how high you can hit notes. People in general have a single octave range. Trained singers have maybe 2, 3 at best. 4 is uncanny talent and not many people have it. Females are the ones that usually possess this but males have been known to also, such as Jeff Buckley.
This is why it's provable. You can't sit there and say "I think Kelly Clarkson is as talented a vocalist as Jeff Buckley" because it's a fact she isn't.
