Are you an idiot? He suffered one of the most painful deaths at the time, plus he was more humiliated than most others who suffered the same death. Plus he lived a life much stricter than us.

Are you an idiot? Thousands of people suffered crucifiction. People are tortured to death around the world.

Nothing about Christ is special. You can claim he lived a "strict life" but no Bible is a biography, it doesn't mention much of anything about Jesus' life, just some time at the end of it.

Of course remember - his God wanted him to die in such a fashion.

Pretty much - the Bible even has him being put up between a couple of common criminals - Jesus was not a significant blip amongst all the others the Roman's (or other cultures) crucified. The only difference, if one believes the Bible, is that he went willingly to such a fate.

God forgives you(probably), but I don't.

I'd take the 6000 gladiators that were crucifed on the road from Capua to Rome over one man claiming to be the son of god. (Thats one crucifix every .02 miles if my math is correct)

Indeed. It must have been quite a sight. As terrible as it might sound to some it would have been interesting to have seen it from a Roman perspective, to get to grips with what they really felt when they saw such a thing.

The Roman philosophy on crucifixtion is fascinating. I have done some extensive research on Roman gladiators and dabbled in the philosphy of Roman punishment there.

The Romans would have found the moden day use of the crucifix rather hilarious imo. They obviously had a sense of humor. The whole "King of Jews" thing with the crown of thorns makes me laugh. Form thier persepective, its brilliant.

I would imagine, and I admit I would share their humor on the use of the crucifix in modern religion, it really is kind of a morbid addition to the whole "love and peace" claims of Christianity.

It would be an fascinating subject, one I might look into one of these days in more depth. I know there use to be a course at my uni based up Roman and Greek laws but I believe the chap did it died. But then he was quite ancient, so I guess I can't blame him.

Laugh. Lets just say I spend too much time in the Greek and Latin reading room, though I admit that I can't read either.

(luckily for me, most have greek/Latin on one page, and an english translation on the other)

Loeb classical library editions?

No, they wer publsihed a while ago. I dont remember the series names, but they were transleted during a rather large cross-section of the 20th century, from the 1910's (Appain) to the 1980's (Florus).

I actually wrote my paper on the Roman Response to the Spartacus war a sign of the downfall of the Republic, so I had a fairly narrow range of scholars I used. But, I used other authors for other smaller projects.

Correct.

"None is righteous, no, not one; no one who understands; no one who seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one." Rom. 3:11,12
