are you kidding? of course we would have had a need for batman begins.as i said, schumacher made people like batman again with batman forever, cause like I said, many people especially moviegoers in general were disgusted with batman returns, the story and how it was so violent.much more so than batman 89,they liked batman 89 a lot but they were really turned off by batman returns, the box office proved that

You do know that Batman Returns was a box office success right?? In it's opening weekend alone in the U.S. it took in 47.7 million. That's just the opening weekend in the U.S.

I'll look up the total worldwide figure later.

But people were not disgusted by it.Some scenes were deemed a little creepy for kids, like Penguin biting that guy's nose.

But Batman Returns was not a box office failure. And Burton was asked to do a third Batman movie,so was Michael Keaton.

but when schumacher made batman forever, they thought it was a nice refreshing take on it and it did much better at the box office then returns did,so again it seems schmacher brought fans back to the theaters with batman forever.schuamcher just ruined it all with batman and robin, and again it wasnt until batman and robin that people started badmouthing forever which again when it first came out, many people loved it at the time.

Batman Forever was muck.

The two villains just acted like The Joker. Two Face was the WORST. He is a serious villain. Not some half pink face, hyper active clown who keeps tossing his coin until he get's the side he wants.

Gotham was like Las Vegas with all the neon.Chris O'Donnell was terrible as Robin.Heck he didn't even do anything except kick Two Face around a bit before he got caught.

Oh yes,and since you're a stickler for comic faithfulness,we all know Two Face never killed Robin's parents, and Robin never had a brother 😉

I agree 100% on your BF comments, Doc

Opening weekend figures dont constitute a movie being successful at the box office though, how it continues on afterwards does. The gross for batman returns was 162,000.thats quite a huge drop off from the 250,ooo that batman 89 made.compared to the box office success batman 89 had-and it really was the name batman alone and being the first film and all was why it was so successful, 😉 compared to the success batman 89 had,it wasnt much of a success, thats quite a huge dropoff from the first film to the second and it was the two villian thing that Burton got started with returns that really turned the audience off with Batman returns.I remember seeing articles everywhere all over the place back then in newspapers bashing it,hardly giving it the praise that batman 89 got because of how much more violent it was than the first film. Its not like the spiderman movies where spiderman two only did slightly worse at the box office than spiderman one did.spiderman two as you know, had a MUCH better quality script which is why it did not have a huge dropoff at the box office like batman returns did, unlike batman returns it did not have a bunch of negative press going against it like returns did. batman forever was well received by reviewers though and moviegoers took to it thats why it made more at the box office than returns did which was 184,000.oo

thats true about two face and that o'donnel was terrible as robin and that gothem looked like neon but after the crap burton brought to the screen with Returns, some kind of major change had to be made and at least with the bright neon you could see what was going on.Burton made his gothem city TOO DARK and went overboard there.I like to be able to see what I am looking at and that was something you couldnt with burtons gothem.Nolan had just the right touch though and rectified burton and schumachers mistakes thank god. as I just pointed out, schumachers batman forever did a lot better at the box office than returns did so schumacher must have done SOMETHING right.Had Burton made a THIRD film,I highly doubt that movie goers would have made it 184,000.00 at the box office like forever did.schumacher it seems kept Burtons Batman from tanking with Forever, only he got really stupid and then made batman and robin and that was the ax for the batman franchise.Had schumacher never made batman and robin and someone else made that movie, people wouldnt be saying that schumacher ruined the batman franchise.schumacher ruined the batman franchise with batman and robin but he didnt ruin it with forever obviously.I mean box office totals dont lie.thats doesnt mean it was a great movie by the box office by any means, but it just proves that batman forever kept the movie franchise going till he decided to ruin it with batman and robin.

Mr Parker, well said... but Forever WAS BS. Utter crap. And I thought yopu HATED Spiderman 1 and 2 with all your heart...?

yeah forever was utter crap just like ALL the burton /schumacher batman movies were as you know and yeah I hate those other piece of crap movies you mentioned with just as much a passion obviously,I was just pointing that out because spider-man 2 unlike batman returns did not get lots of negative publicity when it first came out, same with xmen 2,thats why in both those cases unlike batman returns, the dropoff at the box office compared to the first film was minimul.

Indubi- too- bitabely!

Maybe I should be thanking Schumacher then huh?

Burton didn't do bad, but Nolan did a heck of a lot better.

Nolan was amazing!

yeah he made the one and ONLY true Batman movie.

Batman Begins... the greatest comic movie of all time!

I think Superman 1 was better.

I can't remember that too well... except Lois lane was about as beautiful as maggie Thatcher's bare ass!

This is about the only time I have ever agreed with you on anything.Yeah I still got to say superman one is the best comicbook movie of all time because of all the nostalgia memorys.Batman Begins gave it a run for its money though. 🙂

Hmm... I still remember Lois to be as ugly as Thatcher's bare ass... *shivers*

Okay guys... here we are... its the big night... big question... will Batman Begins win an Oscar?

If not who do you think will beat it for best cinematography, Memoirs of a Geisha? That's who I think will... even though I'm personally rooting for New World... but I know A LOT of people on this forum shall be showing their love for the Dark Knight tonight!

On a more comical note... I'm watching the preshow/red carpet thingy and they are showing little reels of past Oscars and films and they did one of Villains... in it they showed Jack Nicholson as the Joker once and Cillian Murphy as the Scarecrow twice... well once if you don't count the fire breathing horse as a clip of him... LOL!

I found it very funny... there they were with Hannibal Lecter... how great is that!

OH MY GOD I MISSED THAT!!

I'm glad Scarecrow's getting the recognition he deserves though. He was, without a doubt, one of the greatest comic book villains portayed so far.

Say who wins, just in case I miss it please!

Oh yeah...just curious...what was the other clip of Scarecrow? Him holding the lighter? Muttering "scarecrow" in the straightjacket? Something to that effect?

No it was of the close up of his masked face when he looks down at a "toxed" Rachel Dawes in the basement of Arkham... then of him rearing back on the horse near the end of BB... and yes I will announce who wins for ya. 🙂

As I suspected... Memoirs of a Geisha won... sorry guys... no Oscar for BB... or the movie I wanted to win for that matter... oh well, I figured as much... just like how I knew Joaquin Phoenix would win the Golden Globe even though I was rooting for Cillian... can't win 'em all...

Was that second award for best actor or something?

If so, Cilian was nominated for Breakfast on Pluto wasn't he?
